Horse Racing Tips: Pearl can build on recent promise

Another busy day’s action across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday with six meetings scheduled, three afternoon fixtures followed by three evening cards, the last of which concludes under the lights at 21:00.

First off is Ayr at 13:42 before Warwick (14:30) and Ffos Las (14:50) join the afternoon fare, while the evening action gets underway from Gowran Park at 17:10, prior to Kempton (17:30) and Yarmouth (17:35). Amongst our Wednesday fancies is one for trainer Jim Goldie, who ran a promising race on his seasonal reappearance and stable debut at Ayr earlier this month. 

14:42 Ayr - Pearl Eye @ 15/8

PEARL EYE, who left Gay Kelleway following a disappointing end to 2025, shaped with significant promise on her debut for Jim Goldie on his seasonal reappearance over a mile here earlier this month and looks a big player off the same mark with that run behind him.

The six-year-old, a winner of seven of his 40 career outings, is on a losing streak of a little over a year, but he’s become attractively handicapped as a consequence and is now 11lb lower than that last success.

He was putting in some good late work on his stable debut under this pilot Lauren Young and should appreciate this extra furlong.

16:12 Ayr - Kelpie Grey @ 13/8

Goldie looks set to complete a double on the card courtesy of KELPIE GREY, who ran with more encouragement than his eventual finishing position of sixth suggests on last month’s seasonal comeback at Musselburgh.

The six-year-old has been a regular at this track over the years and generally performs well, winning twice (over course and distance) and finishing in the places on a further six occasions.

His last win came here in Class 4 company almost exactly two years ago off a mark of 78, so to be able to contest this lesser race off a 9lb lower mark makes him of significant interest.

17:35 Yarmouth - Havana Sprite @ 8/13

Novice and maiden races at this track usually take plenty of winning and this one is unlikely to be any different with a number of powerful yards represented.

Preference is for the James Tate-trained HAVANA SPRITE, who shaped with a huge amount of promise on her introduction at Newmarket earlier this month.

The selection, who cost 150,000gns as a yearling, was backed into 9/1 from 12s on course, but she showed inexperience leaving the stalls, ducking left and losing ground in the process.

She warmed to her task at halfway, however, and kept on steadily for pressure to finish fourth, beaten just two lengths, and running to a Racing Post Rating of 87.

That’s a figure that’s good enough to win most races at this level and put her nicely clear of her rivals with previous experience.
