Horse Racing Tips: Force should take some stopping

Catterick races

A busier Tuesday than is often the case with a total of six meetings across Britain and Ireland; three afternoon fixtures followed by three twilight cards. A seven-race Jumps fixture at Newton Abbot kicks off proceedings, closely followed by Catterick and Leicester, before the attention switches to Galway, Carlisle and Ffos Las.

Among our horse racing tips for Tuesday is one for trainer Charlie Appleby.

15:10 Catterick - Spartacus Force @ 6/1

The Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood-trained SPARTACUS FORCE was a big eyecatcher at Beverley last month and, while he was unable to build on that promise at Southwell subsequently, he’s clearly worth another chance now returning to turf.

A son of Land Force, he’s never going to be a world beater judged on what he’s shown so far, but he’s likely got a fair bit more ability than his current basement mark of 52 implies.

He barely saw any daylight when finishing a close up fifth over 5f at Beverley on his penultimate start, the gelding having travelled notably well under an exaggerated hold up ride by Barry McHugh.

Still on the bridle entering the final furlong, but with a lot of ground to make up, he gradually picked off rivals without ever posing a serious threat.

He runs off the same mark on Tuesday and a sharp 6f, as opposed to a stiff 5f, should be fine for him.

15:50 Leicester - Monoceros @ 8/13

There was a lot to like about the way in which MONOCEROS went about his business when winning on his debut at Newmarket last month and he should be capable of following up under a penalty.

The selection cost 750,000gns and is bred to be decent, being a brother to Group 2 winner Al Suhail and a half-brother to five others scorer, including Telecaster, who was also successful at Group 2 level over middle distances.

He wasn’t particularly flashy on his debut, but he raced professionally and hit the line strongly, so will be well suited by the stiff finish that Leicester provides.

Appleby has his string in good order (4-10 over the last fortnight at the time of writing) and few are riding better at present than William Buick.
