Horse Racing Tips: Rousing Encore worth a look at Ponte

Flat racing dominates proceedings on Tuesday as four of the day’s five fixtures across Britain and Ireland take place on the level.

Pontefract get us underway and their feature race is a Listed contest over a mile, whilst Lingfield follows shortly after. Tramore, Uttoxeter and Brighton provide the evening entertainment and we have lots to ponder. Amongst our horse racing tips for Tuesday is a Ruth Carr runner at Pontefract who can gain valuable compensation, after some terrible luck in running last time out. 

15:10 Pontefract - Royal Dress @ 4/1

The Listed Pipalong Stakes is open to fillies and mares aged four and upwards and it’s a rare early week treat. It looks like a thoroughly competitive affair but James Tate’s ROYAL DRESS gets the nod here.

She has contested Group races in two starts this season and although she has struggled a bit, the drop in grade can make a big difference. You would imagine this isn’t the strongest race for the grade and a return to winning ways could therefore be on the cards.

The daughter of Night Of Thunder was an impressive winner of a Group 3 at the Curragh last summer and a reproduction of that form will surely give her every chance in this lower grade. Consistency isn’t exactly her forte but she’s more than capable when firing.

The ratings suggest that she has a bit to find with Sparks Fly but that rival is better on a softer surface and Royal Dress is the one to side with on this occasion.

15:40 Pontefract - Rousing Encore @ 7/2

Ruth Carr runs ROUSING ENCORE here and the five-year-old was probably an unlucky loser at Epsom last time out. Eventually finishing fourth, he did well to do so under the circumstances, after repeatedly being denied a run in the last half of the race.

The handicapper has since left his mark alone, which means the five-year-old could be worth siding with. It’s unlikely that he’ll be badly inconvenienced two starts in a row and having won at York before that, clearly he’s in good shape.

Competitive in Group races as a juvenile, he was runner-up in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes that season and should be winning handicaps off 87 with that in mind. Yard form is a slight concern as Carr is 0/27 in the last fortnight but it only takes one winner to get back on track.

17:00 Lingfield - Amestris @ 7/2

Three-year-olds get a 5lb allowance in this race so it might be wise to go for one of the younger and potentially less exposed sorts. There are two three-year-olds amongst the nine-runner field and Michael Bell’s AMESTRIS is the most interesting.

She absolutely bolted up in a course and distance maiden on her second ever start last term and the well beaten second boosted the form by winning a couple of starts later. That performance prompted connections to run her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

She wasn’t disgraced back in ninth and although she’s clearly not a Group horse, the daughter of Mehmas should be up to winning a handicap off 84. Second off this mark at Haydock last time, this race looks easier and she can go one better this time around.
