Horse Racing Tips: Infinity Blue can do the business at Leicester

We’ve got Epsom’s Derby Festival, sponsored by Betfred, to look forward to later this week but there’s plenty to get excited about beforehand. With four meetings taking place across Britain on Tuesday, there’s a little something to cater to everyone’s taste.

Leicester kicks us off in the afternoon and the day’s sole National Hunt fixture from Southwell swiftly follows, whilst Lingfield and Wolverhampton provide the evening entertainment. We have three strong fancies to follow and chief among them is a Julie Camacho runner at Leicester who should step forward from his seasonal debut.

14:30 Southwell - Delpotro @ 6/4 

Southwell’s opening race looks like a competitive affair for the grade and there are several shortlist-worthy candidates. However, Charlie Longsdon’s DELPOTRO gets the nod and champion jockey Sean Bowen has been booked for the ride.

Successful twice in France, it took him a little while to get the hang of racing in Britain but the five-year-old turned a corner in the spring. He showed signs of improvement when second and third in a couple of chases at Sedgefield and Plumpton but there was more to come.

Longsdon’s gelding returned to winning ways in good style over an extended two miles at Sedgefield last month and was well in control that day. Bowen made all the running as the horse scooted clear to score by a margin of seven-and-a-half lengths.

16:47 Leicester - Infinity Blue @ 13/2

Betfred are paying three places on this race, instead of the normal two, and that provides a decent each-way opportunity. With that in mind, you could certainly do worse than INFINITY BLUE, who represents the Julie Camacho yard and is entitled to improve for his last run.

The son of Blue Point remains somewhat unexposed over 7f and he wasn’t beaten far when second over this trip at Wolverhampton in November. That performance came off a mark of 73 so he should be very competitive here, now rated just 1lb higher.

His last win came over 6f at Newmarket last summer and it was a pretty cosy success off a 3lb lower mark.

Camacho’s four-year-old looked in need of the run when third over this trip at Musselburgh last month and we could see a much stronger finishing effort this time around.

19:45 Lingfield - Sugar Hill Babe @ 3/1

Consistency is often key and SUGAR HILL BABE runs her race more often than not. Lisa Williamson’s mare seems to go equally well on turf and the all-weather and she looks like the solid option to side with on this occasion.

It was a career-best performance when winning very easily over this trip at Nottingham last time out. She made all the running and never looked like getting caught, eventually going on to score by an easy two-and-a-quarter lengths.

The handicapper has responded with a 6lb rise, which is very hard to argue with off the back of that very smart performance.

Obviously, she will need to improve again off a career high mark but it would be hard not to be impressed by her last time out showing and there could be more to come.
