Horse Racing Tips: Soldier looks up for the battle

Flat racing dominates Tuesday’s Horse Racing programme with five cards scheduled across Britain and Ireland.
Gowran’s eight-race card gets proceedings underway at 13:35 and is closely followed by Goodwood (13.48) and Chepstow (14:00), prior to a pair of evening All-Weather fixtures from Wolverhampton and Southwell.
Amongst our Tuesday fancies is an Andrew Oliver-trained charge who should appreciate the drop back to 7f and return to handicap company at Gowran Park.
Horse Racing Tips - Tuesday, September 2
14:10 Gowran Park - Krasimir @ 10/3
Ger Lyons’ KRASIMIR has shaped with considerable promise in two runs over 6f and, given he’s likely to want middle distances next season, he’s sure to relish this step up to 7f.
Out of a sister to 1m2f Listed winner Franconia and from the family of Group 1 scorer Winsili, he attracted good support in the market ahead of his debut at Fairyhouse and, while never looking likely to justify that confidence, he was finishing best of all having met with some notable interference over a furlong out.
His subsequent start at Naas was even better, the son of Mehmas going down by only a neck, despite losing ground at the start when stumbling leaving the stalls. Well clear of the third, it was a big effort and suggests a race of this nature is well within his capabilities.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
15:20 Gowran Park - Sun Soldier @ 13/2
The Andrew Oliver-trained SUN SOLDIER hasn’t perhaps gone on as connections would have hoped following his early promise, but he’s on a good mark of 72 at present and warrants another chance, back at 7f with first-time blinkers added.
Placed in maiden company over sprint trips at Navan (twice) and at The Curragh, including when running to a Racing Post Rating of 80 when a big eyecatcher on his introduction, he ran better than his eventual finishing position suggests from poor draw on his nursery debut at Galway in July.
He wasn’t at that level over a mile back in maiden company at Bellewstown last week, but he’s now 3lb lower than that sixth of 15 at Galway and will surely be competitive in what looks an open race.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
19:30 Southwell - Al Rufaa @ 6/1
Daniel and Claire Kubler’s AL RUFAA paid for racing a bit too keenly when fading late on at Newcastle last time, but he wasn’t beaten all that far in what was a better race than this and looks a major player at a track he’s gone well in the past.
The eight-year-old hasn’t won in almost two years, but he’s 4lb below that last success and was arguably unlucky not to come out on top at Brighton at the start of last month, the grey gelding keeping on strongly to get within a neck of course specialist, Uncle Dick, after being held up in traffic at a vital stage.
He’s got form figures of 233 in his three previous runs at Southwell and Saffie Osborne, who has regularly been amongst the winners in the past fortnight, is a good booking.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
