Horse Racing Tips: Jabaara will be hard to beat at Chelmsford

We’ve got a busy Tuesday on our hands this week, with six meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland, and there’s even some Listed action to look forward to. Tipperary gets us underway, whilst Musselburgh and Brighton complete the afternoon action. Chelmsford, Roscommon and Stratford provide the evening entertainment.

We have three strong fancies to follow on Tuesday and amongst them is a Roger Varian-trained filly in Chelmsford’s feature Listed event that should prove very difficult to beat.

15:00 Musselburgh - Individualism @ 7/2

Trainer Charlie Johnston has been in good form recently and the yard will have been further boosted by Lazy Griff’s third in the Irish Derby at the Curragh last weekend. He runs INDIVIDUALISM in Musselburgh’s feature race and a return to winning ways is anticipated.

Individualism gained his first success when making all in a 1m3f handicap at Carlisle last July. He had plenty in hand that day and went on to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths, off a mark of 77, which is just 1lb lower than his current rating.

It’s fair to say that his next three starts were more than a little underwhelming, as they all resulted in heavy defeats. Johnston’s four-year-old produced a much more promising display at Beverley when last seen and he was only denied in the final strides.

Racing off the same mark here, the drop back to 1m1f could well suit on that evidence and he should be bang in the mix once again.

18:00 Chelmsford - Belgravian @ 7/4

Lightly raced Andrew Balding-trained handicappers are always worth keeping an eye on and he runs BELGRAVIAN in Chelmsford’s opening race. This son of Make Believe has only had five starts so far and only one of those has come in handicap company.

He was a beaten favourite in a Catterick maiden over 1m4f back in April but made no mistake when getting off the mark on his handicap debut at Doncaster last time out. Balding’s gelding kept on nicely, seeing the trip out well and scoring by an easy two lengths.

A 4lb rise from the handicapper looks pretty generous and there could be any amount of improvement still to come in this sphere. Going up to an extended 1m5f for the first time here, his latest effort suggests it won’t be an issue and a follow-up success is expected.

20:00 Chelmsford - Jabaara @ 2/1

Chelmsford’s feature race is a 7f Listed event for older fillies and mares and Roger Varian’s runner JABAARA is the obvious candidate on all known form. She wasn’t disgraced when sixth behind Porta Fortuna in the Cheveley Park Stakes as a two-year-old.

Varian’s four-year-old won two Listed races over this trip at three and was only beaten by a neck when second in a Group 3 at Lingfield on her penultimate start. Returning to winning ways at Musselburgh last time out, a repeat performance should be enough here.

Stop The Cavalry looks like the biggest danger as she’s in receipt of 3lb from her 3lb higher-rated rival, but the form suggests that Jabaara is likely to come out on top.
