Doncaster st leger scaled

After the unprecedented day of inaction, racing returns in Britain on Thursday with five meetings.

First they go at Doncaster, then Chelmsford, Epsom, Newcastle and Uttoxeter, while additionally there is racing in Ireland from Clonmel. Below are my Horse Racing Tips for Thursday, September 11.

Horse Racing Tips - Thursday, September 11

  • 14:12 Epsom - Stenmark @ 15/2
  • 14:25 Doncaster - Moon Target @ 7/4
  • 16:43 Doncaster - Pacifica Pier @ 5/2

14:12 Epsom - Stenmark @ 15/2

Stenmark got off the mark for his new yard at Southwell last month, pulling clear of his rivals late on and springing a surprise at odds of 22/1.

Previously trained by James Ferguson, he had shown some promise as a two-year-old but failed to reach the heights connections would have hoped for. He was sold for 17,000gns in May, having originally cost 200,000gns.

He is well-bred, being a son of Kingman with Sea The Stars as the dam sire, so it’s no surprise he commanded a high price at the sales.

Since acquiring him in May, Denis Quinn has taken his time with the three-year-old, and that patience was rewarded at Southwell. He looked a cut above at that level, and he’s worth backing to follow up that performance here.

14:25 Doncaster - Moon Target @ 7/4

Arc de Triomphe-winning trainer Sir Mark Prescott has another classy filly on his hands in Moon Target.

She won her first two starts in scintillating fashion, scoring by five and a half lengths on her debut at Newmarket before following up with a seven-and-a-half-length success at Yarmouth under a penalty.

Those races have already produced several subsequent winners, giving the form a solid boost.

She then headed to Goodwood for the Group Three Prestige Stakes and was a rightful favourite. However, she never looked comfortable around the track, coming off the bridle early and struggling with the undulations.

Even so, she still finished just three-quarters of a length behind the Aidan O’Brien-trained Precise, which was a testament to her class.

Doncaster is a much more straightforward track, and she should be far better suited here. This looks like the perfect opportunity for her to show her true ability.

16:43 Doncaster - Pacifica Pier @ 5/2

The Charlie Appleby-trained Pacifica Pier makes his first start in nurseries on just his third outing.

He won on his debut, beating the highly regarded Publish, although it’s been well noted that he was perhaps fortunate that day, with Publish being blocked at a crucial stage of the race.

He was unable to follow up under a penalty in another decent novice contest, with the winner going on to contest the Listed Ascendant Stakes at Haydock last weekend.

Pacifica Pier has since been gelded, and the route connections we want to take with him are fairly clear.

He may not be a Group horse just yet, but this son of Palace Pier should have a strong chance in this company off a mark of 90.

16:43 Doncaster - Winner
