Horse Racing Tips: Rousham looking to take another step up

Flat racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Sunday with three meetings on the level and one jumps card taking place across the afternoon.

Among our Sunday horse racing tips is one for trainer Nigel Tinkler who got off the mark last time out and who looks well set to follow up here.

15:30 Doncaster - Rousham @ 4/1

ROUSHAM has been progressing well this season. After a rather tame start to his racing career with two heavy defeats early this year he showed what he can do at Ripon last month by taking a respectable second place.

He then followed up with an impressive win last time out at Redcar on his handicap debut.

After being tried over six furlongs previously, the step back up to seven furlongs seemed to bring out the best in him as he travelled strongly throughout and, when he was asked for a bit more to put the race to bed, he delivered, running on well.

However, he was not perfect by any means, once again being keen in the early stages and slightly hanging right in the closing stages.

He still has a lot to learn but it was a noteworthy performance, showing that he holds a lot of ability and having only been put up 3lb for his win, he should improve again and has a good opportunity to follow up on his previous win.

16:05 Doncaster - Wrydcroft @ 11/4

WRYDCROFT  has been in sensational form with four wins to his name in his last six starts and he looks set to go well again.

His purple patch stretches back to the end of last season where he won back-to-back races at Leicester before running no sort of race to finish his 2025 season at Nottingham, where he ran too keen early and could not give any more in the closing stages on heavy ground.

But that was the only blot on his copybook and he started the 2026 season perfectly with a commanding win on the all-weather at Southwell before once again showing what he is made of when making all over today’s course and distance in April.

Following that win he was upped in class last time out at Newmarket and, while he ran strongly throughout, he was no match for the winner and had to settle for second place.

While there may be some concern that the handicapper has now got a hold of him it was, all in all, another impressive performance and if he can replicate that effort again he will take some beating.

16:48 Cork - Nyra @ 10/3

Placed in Group 1 company in Germany last season, NYRA made her debut for her new connections three weeks ago at the Curragh, however it is fair to say that things did not go to plan.

Running in a Listed race over a mile and a half she looked to be the first string of the four of Joseph O'Brien's runners, but things did not turn out as planned and, while she ran well in the early stages, she looked to get outpaced entering the final furlong and had to settle for a distant fourth place.

However, she has shown that she has the ability to perform at this level in the past and Dylan Browne McMonagle has stuck with her for this race.

Now she has a run under her belt she should come on for that and can bounce back here.
