Horse Racing Tips: Dino ready to roar

Perth racecourse

There’s plenty of flat and jumps racing across the UK and Ireland on Sunday with five meetings taking place through the afternoon.

Over jumps they go at Perth, Stratford and Sligo and the flat action comes from Southwell and Navan. Amongst our Sunday fancies is a handicap debutant for trainer Donald McCain who will appreciate two miles against older horses.

16:53 Perth - Pure Gold @ 10/3

Lisa Harrison has her string in great form with two winners from her last three runners and PURE GOLD can enhance that record on his second handicap start at her trainer’s favourite course.

Harrison has saddled 43 winners at Perth, including her most recent runner, more than three times as many as at any other course, so she knows exactly the right type of horse that can thrive here.

This five-year-old mare showed plenty of aptitude for the track on handicap debut last time, beaten less than two lengths despite taking a keen hold for much of the race.

That was only her second start for the yard and came in a Class 4 contest so this drop to a Class 5 under stable jockey Peter Kavanagh should see her go very close.

18:15 Southwell - Brosay @ 17/2

A valuable Class 2 over the minimum trip can go the way of Paul Attwater’s BROSAY who has been running well this season and will appreciate the return to Southwell.

A course and distance winner in a decent nursery at the end of December, he has barely put a hoof wrong in five starts since with a couple of second places on synthetics and another at Sandown on his penultimate start.

He can be forgiven a down-the-field effort last time as it came at Royal Ascot, and if the first-time blinkers can eke out a bit of improvement, this perennial slow starter can claim this nice prize.

18:45 Southwell - Dino Bellagio @ 6/1

DINO BELLAGIO wasn’t able to add to his two bumper wins over hurdles, but the switch to the flat could prove a fruitful one judged on the promise shown in his maidens and novices.

The three runs needed to get a handicap mark have come over trips half a mile less than today’s two miles, a trip he needs judged both on those bumper successes and his doughty pedigree.

He has been giving a stone and more to three-year-olds from top yards in those qualifying runs, with two of them, Pole Star and Valiancy, finishing first and third from marks in the 80s in a valuable Class 2 at Haydock last Saturday.

There was another form boost from Simply Ruby, who had finished a neck in front of the selection in a Haydock novice, as she hosed up in her first handicap off a mark of 67. There has to be a fair chance that Dino Bellagio, who gave her 22lb that day, is well-handicapped off the same mark.
