Horse Racing Tips: Pissarro can paint the right picture in Eclipse

The three-year-olds take on the older horses in the cross-generational clash that is the Eclipse on Saturday and it’s a busy day for racing, with eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.

Haydock kicks us off, before the afternoon action continues at Sandown, Naas and Beverley, whilst Leicester, Carlisle, Bellewstown and Nottingham provide the evening entertainment. We have three strong fancies to follow for our Horse Racing Tips across the afternoon and these include an Aidan O’Brien-trained runner in the big race of the day. The horse in question remains unexposed over 1m2f and there could well be more to come.

13:50 Sandown - She’s Quality @ 11/4

Occam’s razor tells us that the simplest answer is usually the correct one and that is why Irish raider SHE’S QUALITY is the one to side with in this Group 3 contest. Jack Davison’s four-year-old has produced a fair level of form this season and should be winning this.

She began the season with a solid second behind Rumstar in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket and that race, also a Group 3, was probably tougher. Stepping into Group 2 company for the Temple Stakes next time, she was beaten by less than a length in second.

A similar performance should be enough here, especially as the form received a huge boost at Royal Ascot. American Affair was back in fifth and he went on to win the King Charles III Stakes. That makes her very hard to oppose and a return to winning ways is anticipated.e

15:15 Haydock - Plage De Havre @ 6/1

Betfred are offering five places in this race, as opposed to the standard four, but Andrew Balding’s PLAGE DE HAVRE might not need them. He was a very unlucky loser in the Jorvik Handicap at York last time out and would have gotten much closer with a clear run.

This son of Le Havre was denied a clear run on at least three separate occasions throughout the race and his momentum was undoubtedly checked as a result. Keeping on well to finish third, the handicapper has left his mark alone since and he deserves another chance here.

Balding’s four-year-old was last victorious at Newcastle in February and he was in complete command that day, kicking clear to score by four-and-a-half lengths. Winning off a 9lb higher mark shouldn’t be beyond him on that evidence and another big run is anticipated here.

15:35 Sandown - Camille Pissarro @ 7/1

CAMILLE PISSARRO was a precocious yet progressive juvenile last term, winning the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc Weekend. Field Of Gold could only manage fourth that day and he has since gone on to become a superstar miler.

This son of Wootton Bassett then finished third behind stablemate Henri Matisse in the French Guineas and Christophe Soumillon suggested going up in trip for the Prix du Jockey Club next, which was an inspired suggestion, as he kept on strongly to win by half-a-length.

More will be needed now taking on the older horses but Aidan O’Brien is excellent at getting his horses to improve through the season and he remains unexposed over the trip.
