Horse Racing Tips: Northumberland Plate fancy among trio of Saturday selections

There's plenty of action to get stuck into on Saturday, with seven meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.

Here's a trio of horse racing tips to follow, including one from the feature race of the afternoon - the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

14:25 York - Paborus @ 11/4

Lake Forest is going to take a chunk out of the market after his fifth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot, but he looks worth taking on dropping back to seven furlongs and PABORUS is a star on the rise.

He’s been hugely progressive in the last 13 months, winning four of his five starts. He hinted at his potential when romping home from a decent field of handicappers at Southwell in October and proved even better after a break in a conditions event at Thirsk last time.

He travelled strongly and made short work of strong opposition, in the manner of one with plenty more to come. That form also received a boost when the fourth landed the Thirsk Hunt Cup next time.

Paborus recorded a Racing Post Rating of 117 that day, which doesn’t leave him with a lot to find, and he can take the step up into Group company in his stride.

15:15 Newcastle - Dancing In Paris @ 11/1

The Northumberland Plate has attracted a full field of 20 every year since the race was switched to the all-weather in 2016 and is a difficult puzzle to solve.

Narrowing the field down to those with form on synthetics has been a good pointer to success, with seven of the nine winners having already won on the all-weather, while the other two had finished second in their previous start on sand.

The one who makes the most appeal is DANCING IN PARIS, who gave 12lb and a beating to Northumberland Plate favourite Who's Glen in a Racing League contest at Southwell last year and is 16lb better off with that rival on Saturday.

His only other start on Tapeta saw him finish fourth in a 1m4½f handicap here in May, an effort that can be upgraded as that was his first start in 198 days and he made his move towards the centre of the track while the stands' rail was the place to be.

He was beaten just half a length in third behind subsequent Copper Horse Stakes winner French Master at Goodwood last time, despite not getting the clearest of runs, and this 2lb higher mark looks workable, while he is more unexposed at the trip than a lot of his rivals.

16:00 Windsor - Under The Twilight @ 5/1

The booking of Rossa Ryan for UNDER THE TWILIGHT catches the eye in the 6f handicap at Windsor.

She returned from a break with a promising return over a furlong further at Doncaster in March but has yet to build on that in three subsequent starts over a variety of trips.

However, she came in for a bit of support when dropped to this distance at Newbury last time and shaped better than the result suggests, as she had to make her challenge away from where the main action took place.

The return to this track is the most interesting aspect. Her four visits to Windsor feature among her top seven Racing Post Ratings, including looking unlucky in the Class 2 Sprint Series Final here in August.

She is now 9lb lower than when winning over course and distance in April last year and can take advantage now dropping into the weakest race she’s tackled this year.
