Horse Racing Tips: Rosallion set for revenge

Yet another high-quality Saturday programme with the fourth and final day of York’s Ebor meeting taking centre stage alongside Goodwood’s Premier Raceday fixture. Newmarket and the Curragh host Flat cards of their own and there’s a National Hunt offering from both Cartmel and Killarney.
The evening sees a pair of Flat cards from Windsor and Redcar. Amongst our Horse Racing Tips for Saturday is Richard Hannon’s Rosallion, last season’s Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes hero, who is a warm favourite to recoup last month’s Sussex Stakes losses.

14:05 Goodwood - Back In Black @ 9/2
The James Fanshawe-trained BACK IN BLACK is lightly raced and has the potential to be better than a handicapper, as his entry in a Group 2 at Doncaster next month suggests.
The selection has done very little wrong in five starts so far and supplemented last season’s 7f Yarmouth maiden win with a smooth victory on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury in April.
He’s been off since, but a 134-day absence is of no great concern considering that win came after an eight-month break.
Up 6lb and facing some battle hardened rivals, this represents by far his toughest task to date, but he’s improved with each and every start and his trainer has done well with a limited number of runners he’s had at Goodwood in recent years.

15:00 York - Rosallion @ 11/8
Things haven’t quite gone to plan for Richard Hannon’s ROSALLION this season, but he could have won both the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood granted a bit more luck and won’t be winning out of turn when he does put his head in front.
Hannon’s four-year-old is chasing a fourth Group 1 win of his career, having struck in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp as a juvenile and the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes last term.
Beaten a nose at Royal Ascot prior to losing out by a neck to 150/1 chance Qirat in one of the biggest upsets in living memory at Goodwood, he more than warrants his official mark of 120 and shouldn’t be overly inconvenienced by a drop back to 7f, albeit it’s a distance he’s yet to win over.

15:50 Goodwood - Wicked @ 11/4
John and Thady Gosden’s WICKED did well to overcome a significant early stumble when winning off a 5lb lower mark at Sandown in May and his subsequent Goodwood defeat on unsuitable heavy ground is easily excused.
The son of Kingman had been progressing well prior to getting bogged down over a mile here and there’s every reason to believe he can get his career back on track, the combination of better ground and a step up to 1m2f for the first time very much in his favour.
He’ll be in receipt of a handy three-year-old allowance from his elders and Jim Crowley, who takes the ride for the first time, has a 31 per-cent strike-rate for the yard this season.
