Horse Racing Tips: Extravagant can reward backers

We've got another bumper Saturday, featuring eight meetings across the UK and Ireland, to look forward to.

I've studied the many cards and come up with some horse racing tips, including one at the Curragh on Irish Oaks day.

16:50 Curragh - Extravagant @ 9/4

The Aidan O’Brien-trained EXTRAVAGANT - a €300,000 son of sire of the moment, Wootton Bassett - has shaped with significant encouragement on his two starts to date and should be up to defying a mark of 83 on his nursery debut.

His debut effort over this course and distance was particularly eyecatching, the half-brother to Group 1 scorer Cloth Of Stars finishing strongly for second, having been notably green when initially brought under pressure. He was no match for Green Sense, beaten three lengths, but there was no disgrace in that with the winner going on to finish a good second in Group 3 company on his next start.

Extravagant failed to build on that upped to 7f at Fairyhouse last month, again looking in need of the experience, whilst not convincing over the additional furlong under 5lb claimer, Jack Cleary. However, back at 6f and with Ryan Moore in the saddle, he makes obvious appeal.

Which Wolf Wins hasn’t achieved much in three outings so far and is 2lb out of the handicap, but Joseph O’Brien has won four out of the last five runnings of this race, so he commands respect.

17:15 Doncaster - One More Dream @ 5/1

John and Sean Quinn’s ONE MORE DREAM has enjoyed a productive campaign, winning three times, but things could have been even better for the six-year-old, who has looked unlucky on at least two occasions.

Successful at this venue, Wolverhampton and at Pontefract this term, he was repeatedly denied a clear run from over a furlong out when second at Catterick in May and he again found his share of traffic problems when third at Ripon last month.

The gelding wasn’t at his best when last seen, but he remains very well treated on his peak form and should appreciate a return to 5f.

Mason Patel, a young apprentice very much on the up, takes off a valuable 5lb.

18:15 Doncaster - Highland Viking @ 7/2

It promises to be a profitable hour for the Quinn stable at Doncaster with HIGHFIELD VIKING looking a big player in division one of the 7f handicap.

The five-year-old has developed into a hugely consistent sort at this distance, regularly running to Racing Post Ratings in excess of his official mark since having blinkers applied.

He caught the eye when third at Thirsk at the start of the month, the son of Acclaim losing out in some early scrimmaging and meeting further interference at a vital stage, prior to rallying close home.

Highfield Viking matched that level of form when second at Carlisle subsequently and a reproduction of that, off the same mark of 63, would make him hard to beat.

There’s potential for rain and any easing of underfoot conditions would strengthen his claims.
