York racecourse

With Royal Ascot just around the corner, Saturday’s big meeting comes from York where there’s a seven-race card. The Race To The Ebor Grand Cup is the feature event at York and there’s also some competitive action at Sandown Park too.

I've picked out a trio of horse racing tips to follow on Saturday, including an each-way play in a competitive handicap on the Knavesmire.

Horse Racing Tips - Saturday, June 14

  • 14:25 York - Ocean Of Dreams @ 11/1
  • 15:35 York - Showering @ 16/1
  • 17:35 Sandown - Struth @ 17/2

14:25 York - Ocean Of Dreams @ 11/1

Talented riders in races confined to amateur jockeys are worth their weight in gold and an accomplished pilot in the Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap (For Female Amateurs) is Brodie Hampson, who rode a winner on her most recent ride at Newbury on Thursday.

She takes over on OCEAN OF DREAMS on Saturday, a horse who’s likely to have been targeted at this contest since a narrow defeat at Ascot last month.

Not much went right at Goodwood in the interim, but that was over a trip that stretched his stamina and he gives the impression that he’s more of a middle distance sort.

This son of Fastnet Rock is now down to a career low mark of 86, despite two cracking runs in defeat this season already and, if she handles the likely slower ground here (won her maiden on heavy on her debut at Leopardstown), then there’s every reason to think she will be competitive from this sort of mark.

15:35 York - Showering @ 16/1

With plenty of pace drawn in the high numbers in the six furlong three-year-old sprint handicap on the Knavesmire card, a draw in the double figures is probably going to be advantageous and one that looks like a fascinating contender is SHOWERING.

This three-year-old colt won impressively on debut at Newcastle before a narrow defeat to a nice prospect back in the North East second time out and he got his career firmly back on track with a Yarmouth success subsequently.

He looks like a typically progressive sort for his trainer William Haggas and he has a far less exposed profile than most of his rivals, having just his fourth run here.

With the talented Harry Burns claiming 3lb, he looks like the one they all have to beat.

15:35 York - Winner Showering

17:35 Sandown - Struth @ 17/2

Sandown’s finale looks like one of the better races from the Esher track and one of the most interesting runners on that card is STRUTH for the in-form Charlie Johnston team.

This son of Australia was competing in hotter races than this last season and, while he’s taken a couple of runs to warm up this time around, there were definite signs of a return to form when fourth at Chester last time when meeting some interference in the run.

He’s very well treated on old form if he can build on that outing and there’s a suspicion that the step up to this distance will see him in an even better light.

17:35 Sandown - Winner Struth
