Horse Racing Tips: Accentuate can get off the mark at Windsor

There were plenty of talking points over the weekend, as Aidan O’Brien won both the Oaks and the Derby at Epsom, and we now hit a quieter period as Royal Ascot approaches. We have five meetings to look forward to across Britain and Ireland on Monday and Brighton gets us underway, before the afternoon action continues at Southwell and Roscommon, Windsor and Pontefract take us through the evening.

We have three strong fancies to follow on Monday and among them is a lightly raced maiden for Roger Varian that has been presented with an excellent opportunity to get off the mark.

17:30 Windsor - HK Fourteen @ 11/4

There are several likely contenders in this 5f handicap, which is competitive for the grade, and it’s the Tony Carroll-trained HK FOURTEEN that gets the nod however. He remains relatively lightly raced and there could be more to come from him.

Carroll’s gelding progressed nicely to complete a hat-trick of handicap wins last autumn, with the first of those coming on turf at Bath in October. That impressive three-and-three-quarter-length success was followed by two wins on the all-weather at Newcastle.

A fair third on seasonal debut over course and distance last time out, he’s entitled to improve for the run and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb since.

Jockey Jack Doughty has been in good form recently and it would be no surprise to see HK Fourteen return to winning ways.

19:00 Windsor - Fidelius @ 9/1

Windsor’s feature race is the £30,000 Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap over the minimum trip and it looks thoroughly competitive.

The Robert Cowell yard has been out of form recently but it only takes one winner to get back on track and FIDELIUS may be the one.

This son of Harry Angel made the perfect start to the current campaign with a very impressive success at Chelmsford in March. Making all the running that day, there was no way that any of his four rivals were going to get anywhere near him.

It’s noted that Tom Marquand has been booked for the ride and, although he was below-par at Epsom in April, it was a better performance when fourth by a length at Nottingham last time out.

The handicapper has dropped him 1lb since and he’s likely to go close with that in mind.

20:00 Windsor - Accentuate @ 5/6

Roger Varian’s ACCENTUATE has only had two starts so far and he made his debut in a Class 2 novice at Ascot in July.

There was lots to like about that performance and he stuck to his task well, keeping on to finish third.

The form of that race has worked out fairly well as several subsequent winners have come out of the race and Accentuate could have finished closer if not for being denied a clear run at a key stage of the race.

He followed that up with a second-place finish at Newbury on seasonal debut and the three-year-old is entitled to improve for that, as it was his first start for 307 days.

Keeping on well but lacking the pace to challenge, the step up to a mile should suit and he will surely be winning races before long.
