Horse Racing Tips: Handlethekettle one to side with on Monday

We’re in the middle of the summer period, but the action is evenly split between Flat and National Hunt meetings on Monday, with four fixtures on the schedule.

Amongst our horse racing tips for across the afternoon and well into the evening is one for trainer Jamie Snowden who has an excellent record over hurdles and looks well set to add another victory to his tally.

14:42 Worcester - I'm A Starman @ 5/2

This 2m7f handicap chase is an interesting puzzle and it’s the veteran I’M A STARMAN who gets the nod. Mark Rimmell’s 12-year-old has been in fine form over hurdles recently and managed to complete a four-timer here last month.

He began with a narrow success at Carlisle in April, despite getting a little outpaced after the second last, and showed a good attitude to get the better of Passengerontheship by a neck. Much more impressive at Warwick after that, he went on to score by 13 lengths.

I’m A Starman then earned successive course wins and both came by comfortable margins. It’s hard to overlook a horse who is in such good form and the son of Schiaparelli is worth sticking with until the handicapper catches up.

Connections are seeking to take advantage of the fact that his chase mark is 12lb lower than his hurdles one and now could be a good time to catch him. There are no guarantees that he can reproduce his recent form over fences but Sean Bowen is on board again and he should go close.

15:45 Worcester - Handlethekettle @ 5/4

Worcester’s feature race is a competitive-looking Class 2 handicap hurdle and Jamie Snowden’s HANDLETHEKETTLE looks well set to go close. He has three wins and a second to his name in just five starts over hurdles and the best is surely yet to come.

The son of Youmzain defied a penalty to win a Taunton novice hurdle in good style back in April and the runner-up is no mug, having won over hurdles previously. Things didn’t go to plan when trying fences for the first time at Ffos Las after that but the return to hurdles suits.

Impressively winning a course and distance Class 3 by five lengths last month, the handicapper has responded with a fairly reasonable 5lb rise. You would imagine that the extra weight won’t be enough to stop him and he’s clearly the one to beat on that form.

20:30 Ripon - Colinski @ 6/4

We’re unlikely to come across any world-beaters in Ripon’s penultimate race but the seven-runner field contains several unexposed and interesting types. Chief among them is James Owen’s runner COLINSKI, who has only had four starts to date.

He struggled in three starts in maiden and novice company over 1m2f but appreciated the step up to an extended 1m3f when taking a big step forward to win on handicap debut at Lingfield last month.

A 6lb rise is to be expected and the three-year-old should be capable of winning more races in handicap company. He could prove hard to beat if turning up in similar form.
