Horse Racing Tips: Mandurah can score at Ripon

Flat racing unsurprisingly dominates proceedings on Monday, but there is one National Hunt meeting among the six fixtures taking place across Britain and Ireland. First off is Naas, where the €200k Ballyhane Stakes is the main event, and the afternoon racing continues at Cork, Lingfield and Ripon.
The evening action is provided by Windsor and Carlisle, so there’s something to cater to everyone’s tastes. Monday's Horse Racing Tips, all of which run at Ripon, include a thoroughly unexposed runner for Simon & Ed Crisford, who has some rock-solid juvenile form in the book.

14:10 Ripon - Goyard @ 8/11
David O’Meara has a 27 per cent strike-rate with his three-year-old runners on turf so far this season, and one of his 18 winners was provided by GOYARD. The gelding has only had two starts thus far, and he showed plenty on debut at Doncaster in June.
Finishing second that day, the quickening of the pace with a furlong or so to go was a bit of a shock to the system, but he responded well and kept on nicely to finish second. It remains to be seen if the form amounts to much, but it was a promising debut effort nonetheless.
Positive tactics were enforced here over 6f next time out and he made all to win emphatically. He easily pulled six-and-a-half lengths clear of the field and clearly took a big step forward from his debut.
Showing enough early pace that day to suggest 5f will be fine, he should prove hard to beat.

14:40 Ripon - Rogue Temptation @ 7/4
Edward Bethell is an up-and-coming trainer, but his season hasn’t exactly gone to plan on the whole so far. Winless from 18 runners in the last fortnight, ROGUE TEMPTATION could be the one to stop the rot.
She made her debut in a Class 2 novice event at York in June, and she got off to a slow start and wasn’t able to recover. Entitled to need the experience, it was a much better display when getting off the mark in a much weaker race at Haydock last month.
The daughter of Mehmas managed to break much sharper, and the extra furlong was clearly a big help.
Hitting the front with a furlong or so to go, she ran on well to score by a length-and-a-half. More will be needed under a penalty, but further progress seems likely.

15:40 Ripon - Mandurah @ 9/2
MANDURAH was a narrow winner of a Newmarket novice on debut, but it was the form of her narrow fourth in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes after that which really stands out.
The winner, Simmering, went on to win a Group 2 in France and finish third in the 1000 Guineas. Simon & Ed Crisford’s filly didn’t quite have enough to win, but was only beaten by a length in the end.
A combination of softer ground and seven furlongs didn’t play to her strengths when disappointing in the Oh So Sharp Stakes next time, and it was a similar story on seasonal debut at Deauville last month.
Making her handicap debut here, a mark of 93 doesn’t look too unreasonable, and the drop in grade combined with a return to 6f should be right up her street.
We’re expecting a much better performance this time around, and victory could be on the cards.
