The build-up to the Betfred Derby and Oaks at Epsom at the weekend begins on Monday, with six meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.

My horse racing tips for the afternoon includes one for Ralph Beckett, who will be hoping to build some confidence heading to Surrey.

Horse Racing Tips - Monday, June 2

16:45 Brighton - Local Bay @ 9/4

Last-time-out runners-up LOCAL BAY and Renesmee could be the pair to focus on here. The latter went close at Newmarket (1m, good) in May on first start after joining Michael Keady from the Alice Haynes team.

She had every chance inside the final furlong but was beaten a half-length at the post on her first start since December. She should come on from that.

Local Bay is a five-time winner on turf, including a brace of successes over 7f/1m at this seaside layout.

He won here off a mark of 70 in August last year in the hands of Jack Doughty and the partnership has been second-best in both recent runs around here over 7f/1m. He remains 7lb below his last winning mark and his turn should be looming again.

18:45 Windsor - Jettie's Run @ 8/11

It could be the start of a big week for Ralph Beckett, with two Derby contenders in Pride Of Arras and Stanhope Gardens potentially being Epsom-bound on Saturday.

He could have a smart filly on his hands in JETTIE'S RUN, a daughter of Wootton Bassett. She was second behind Godolphin's Magical Trail on debut at Kempton September and opened her account next time at the Sunbury venue over 6f in October when holding off the late challenge of Andrew Balding's Bermuda Longtail.

The runner-up that day has since gone on to occupy the same position in Listed company at York last month over a mile on turf debut.

Rossa Ryan's partner has to give away a 7lb penalty to the field here but she could be well above average and may prove equal to it.

19:00 Wetherby - Sixteen One @ 9/4

George Boughey could take out this Heineken 0.0 Fillies' Handicap at Wetherby with bottom-weight SIXTEEN ONE.

The Land Force filly is a 10-race maiden and has shown better form in her five turf starts compared to five on the synthetic surfaces.

Last month's handicap debut at Newmarket (1m, good) brought with it a two-length third of 10 behind one from the Charlie Johnston team that found a sudden jolt of improvement.

Sixteen One then dropped to 6f at Leicester and was denied a head by the fast-finishing Iconnic, another improver on handicap debut.

The selection has shown improved form in both starts since the cheekpieces were added. She tackles this 7f trip for the first time in handicap company and this looks a weaker race on paper than the ones she ran in last month at Newmarket and Leicester.

19:00 Wetherby - Winner Sixteen One
