Horse Racing Tips: Savannah to be all Smiles at Chepstow again

The eve of Royal Ascot arrives on Monday and there are five meetings across the UK and Ireland ahead of the big show kicking off on Tuesday afternoon. Flat racing on Monday comes from Chepstow, Carlisle, Windsor and Wolverhampton (AW), along with jumps fare from Kilbeggan.

Below are my three best bets for Monday's horse racing tips, including Chepstow regular Savannah Smiles as she bids to embellish a good record at the Welsh borders venue.

15:15 Carlisle - Twoforthegutter @ 11/2

The Christopher Kellett-trained TWOFORTHEGUTTER ran good races at Ayr (1m5f, good) and here over course and distance (good to firm) in April/May and is forgiven a lesser effort since at Beverley.

That run saw him dropped back in trip to 1m4f and it may have caught him out. His two wins have come at Hamilton over 1m4f/1m5f, the stiff nature of the Scottish track suiting well.

That spin here over C&D last month was his first Carlisle start and, again, the testing nature of the track was to his liking.

He races off the same mark of 55 now and the Expert Eye gelding is fancied to leave behind his Beverley run back over a track and trip that match up well for him.

16:00 Chepstow - Savannah Smiles @ 6/1

Six furlongs is the trip for the Glamorgan Federation WI Handicap at Chepstow and the appealing course and distance form of SAVANNAH SMILES draws the eye to the Grace Harris-trained inmate.

The mare is a regular at the Monmouthshire circuit and was a winner in September last year over this trip off a mark of 58 in the hands of Callum Hutchinson.

That success came on the heels of a win in this month last year over track and trip and her most recent form figures at Chepstow read a very promising 3121233.

She went off favourite here earlier in the month and finished third, beaten just over a length, but that was over the minimum trip and returning to this distance looks like a positive.

19:30 Windsor - Sir Les Patterson @ 9/2

This Class 3 sprint at Windsor is the feature on Monday and the likes of Stanley Spencer and Durham Castle are set to be amongst the leading fancies for James Tate and Simon & Ed Crisford's yards.

Respected as they are, a chance is taken instead that SIR LES PATTERSON can score for the first time on turf.

The George Wood-trained Zoustar gelding is a three-time winner on synthetic surfaces, scoring at Southwell, Kempton and Wolverhampton over 6f/7f.

He toiled in three runs on grass last summer, but those came in quality events at Haydock, Ascot and Sandown over 7f/1m and can be excused.

He looks to be an improved performer now and delivered his best effort so far (from five) on turf when denied a half-length at York (6f, good to firm) on his most recent appearance.

On that evidence, it's surely a matter of when and not if he opens his account in this code.
