Ayr racecourse

Flat racing dominates across Britain and Ireland on Friday, with six meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Newbury before they go to Ayr, Kempton and Dundalk - while jumps action comes from Newton Abbot and Downpatrick.

Among my horse racing tips for Friday is one for Richard Fahey, who has won the 6f nursery handicap at Ayr three times in the last four years and looks to have another winner in waiting this year.

Horse Racing Tips - Friday, September 20

  • 14.33 Ayr - Bonnie's Boy @ 2/1
  • 15.05 Ayr - Gold Star Hero e/w @ 25/1
  • 17.10 Kempton - Izipizi @ 10/11

14.33 Ayr - Bonnie's Boy @ 2/1

The first selection of the day runs in the 6f nursery handicap at Ayr and this Class 2 event is usually won by a pretty smart handicapper who can go on and test out pattern class races in time.

Trainer Richard Fahey has targeted this race in recent times, winning it three times in the last four years, and BONNIE'S BOY should be able to add to the yard's tally in the hands of Oisin Orr.

The son of Tasleet has finished runner-up on all three starts to date. On his second start over 6f at Thirsk, he nearly overcame a tough draw when only finding Dark Moon Rising too strong and he was a few lengths clear at the furlong pole when collared late over 5f at Newcastle last time.

Stepping back up to 6f will be no problem at all and an opening mark of 80 looks more than fair, so hopefully Bonnie's Boy can go one better this time.

15.05 Ayr - Gold Star Hero e/w @ 25/1

In the following 5f Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes, Michael Bell's GOLD STAR HERO is open to plenty of improvement and could be the value each-way play.

Owned by Middleham Park Racing, the son of Starspangledbanner was green when fourth at Beverley on debut over 6f, but he showed plenty of speed when getting off the mark at Chelmsford over the same trip when last seen in August.

He wore a hood to post that day so clearly has his quirks, but this speedy type shouldn't mind the drop in trip and he can take this step up in grade in his stride in the hands of Callum Shepherd.

This is an Extra Place Race, with four on offer instead of three at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

17.10 Kempton - Izipizi @ 10/11

The Gosden’s haven't had the most amazing of years to date but they're still operating at around 19 per-cent this term and IZIPIZI should be up to the task in this 1m fillies' novice.

Sporting the famous Anthony Oppenheimer silks, the daughter of Kingman only found stablemate Friendly Soul too strong in a maiden over course and distance on debut, and that winner has won a Group 3 and Group 2, and has an entry for the Champion Stakes.

Izipizi disappointed next time at Newbury after a short break, but only bumped into a decent type when second at Newbury in June and a return to this surface could eke out more improvement.
