Grand National Result 2026: A gladiatorial bloodbath for the bookies

I Am Maximus won back his crown as the 2026 Grand National winner.

The 10-year-old defied top weight to give trainer Willie Mullins a fourth win in the race (his third in a row) and jockey Paul Townend a second.

I Am Maximus became the first horse to regain the race since Red Rum in 1977, and will go down in the annals as one of the best.

The JP McManus-owned superstar saw a huge surge of money before the off, backed into 9/2 favourite, and Betfred boss Fred Done remarked; “It’s been a gladiatorial bloodbath for us bookies.”

Second past the post was last year's fourth Iroko, whilst 28/1 shot Jordans, who led coming up to the elbow, was third for Joseph O'Brien.
