Grand National Outsider Tips: Could Elliott’s tried and tested route work again?

The Grand National will attract the UK's attention on Saturday afternoon at Aintree (16:00 BST, ITV1) and we at Betfred Insights are here to help prepare you for the big race. By now you'll be familiar with who the favourites are, but if you're like me, you are seeking value in a big outsider.

I have picked out three runners who I think are worth covering in each-way bets, particularly as Betfred are offering six places instead of the usual four. Check out my Grand National outsider tips below.

Grand National 2026 Tips

  • Each-way - Johnnywho @ 12/1
  • Each-way - Final Orders @ 22/1
  • Each-way - Favori De Champdou @ 33/1

Each-way - Johnnywho @ 12/1

You may not think 12/1 to be a big enough price for an outsider, but JOHNNYWHO is sixth in the list, so I am counting him - scold me if you must.

This nine-year-old impressed at the Cheltenham Festival last month, claiming the Ultima Handicap Chase ahead of Jagwar, who is fourth in the Grand National betting.

This will be a real test of his stamina, as he faded away between the last two fences in the Irish Grand National in 2025. If he stays then he could play a leading role at Aintree and the evidence we got from last month's run in Gloucestershire suggests he may be ready for this four-mile trip.

Each-way - Final Orders @ 22/1

Another runner fresh off a victory at the Cheltenham Festival is FINAL ORDERS for Gavin Cromwell. He won the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, which has proven to be a good warm-up for National heroes over the years. Tiger Roll, who won the Cross Country Chase and Grand National double in both 2018 and 2019, is the greatest example.

Corach Rambler, the 2023 champion, is the other horse of the past decade to achieve success in the Aintree spectacle on the back of a Cheltenham Festival victory (Ultima Handicap Chase).

Final Orders has looked reborn after switching to cross country events last year. At 10 years old, his age goes against the trends for recent Grand National winners, but his last outing gives him a good platform for Saturday.

Each-way - Favori De Champdou @ 33/1

FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU is in the form of life heading to Aintree for Gordon Elliott's yard. At 66/1, he claimed a handicap chase at Leopardstown and followed up with two impressive runs in cross-country handicaps at Cheltenham. He won the first in December before finishing second behind Final Orders at the Festival in March.

He is hoping to become the first 11-year-old winner since Pineau de Re in 2014. It's going to require a lot of work given how most of the recent winners have been aged between eight and nine. However, Elliott has had success in prepping runners for the Grand National through the Cross Country at Cheltenham. They were  Silver Birch and Tiger Roll.

You may call it a sign, or perhaps fantasy, but 33/1 was in fact the price of last year's winner Nick Rockett.
