1. I Am Maximus

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Paul Townend
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-12
  • Odds: 15/2

Winner of the race two years ago, and he was second here last year. He’s been the favourite with Betfred in the weeks leading up to the race, and Paul Townend taking the ride is a vote of confidence for a top yard.

Rating: ****

3. Banbridge

  • Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
  • Jockey: JJ Slevin
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-11
  • Odds: 40/1

Winner of the 2024 King George VI Chase at Kempton, but hasn’t won a race in five outings since and not much market support. JJ Slevin will ride.

Rating: **

4. Grangeclere West

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Patrick Mullins
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-10
  • Odds: 9/1

Third in this race 12 months ago behind his two stablemates. An impressive five-and-a-half-length win in the Bobbyjo Chase earlier in the year has seen his price tumble here, and the fact that last year’s winning jockey prefers his chances here tells a story.

Rating: *****

Grand National 2026 - Winner
Grangeclare West

Odds correct at time of publishing.

5. Gerri Colombe

  • Trainer: Gordon Elliott
  • Jockey: Jack Kennedy
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-10
  • Odds: 22/1

Has course-winning form, which is a positive. Needs to reverse the placings with Grangeclere West from the Bobbyjo, but ran well to win his prep chase with Nick Rockett well beaten behind that day. The stable jockey has picked the 10-year-old.

Rating: ****

6. Haiti Coleurs

  • Trainer: Rebecca Curtis
  • Jockey: Sean Bowen
  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 11-10
  • Odds: 16/1

Rating: ****

8. Firefox

  • Trainer: Gordon Elliott
  • Jockey: Keith Donaghue
  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-4
  • Odds: 50/1

Won a Grade 2 at Down Royal in the Autumn but has found the going too hot to handle in subsequent Irish and Cheltenham Gold Cups. Keith Donaghue picks up the ride.

Rating: **

9. Monty’s Star

  • Trainer: Henry de Bromhead
  • Jockey: Darragh O’Keefe
  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 11-3
  • Odds: 14/1

Rating: ***

10. Spanish Harlem

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Brian Hayes
  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-3
  • Odds: 33/1

The winner of the Kerry National last September has failed to finish on his subsequent three starts. The price suggests he has it all to do here, but still has age on his side.

Rating: **

11. Lecky Watson

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Sean O’Keefe
  • Age:8
  • Weight: 11-2
  • Odds: 33/1

Rating: ***

12. Champ Kiely

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Danny Mullins
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-1
  • Odds: 28/1

  • Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr.
  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-1
  • Odds: 14/1

The eight-year-old returns for another crack, having finished fourth in the race last season. He’s up 3lbs here, having had a prep run at Cheltenham in the Ultima; connections are buoyant about his chances.

Rating: ****

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 10-13
  • Odds: 16/1

Nice story here with brothers Connor and Daniel King, the trainer and jockey. Fourth in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham, the eight-year-old won his three previous starts. Bidding to be the first novice to win the race since Noble Yeats in 2022.

Rating: ***

17. Mr Vango

  • Trainer: Sarah Bradstock
  • Jockey: Jack Tudor
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 10-12
  • Odds: 66/1

A stayer who has won the Devon, London and Midlands National. Second here behind Twig in the Becher Chase in December, pulled up in both subsequent starts. Would need it to be a bog.

  • Jockey: James Bowen
  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-11
  • Odds: 50/1

Rating: *

21. Captain Cody

  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Jonathan Burke
  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 10-10
  • Odds: 16/1

Winner of the Scottish Grand National last season. Hasn’t shown a whole lot of form this season, but this will have been the aim. Jonathan Burke picks up the ride for top trainer Willie Mullins. The price dictates that he has a good chance.

Rating: ***

22. Jagwar

  • Trainer: Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero
  • Jockey: Mark Walsh
  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 10-10
  • Odds: 10/1

Not finished outside the top three in three starts this season, including a half-length defeat to Johnnywho at the Festival last time out.

Rating: ****

Grand National 2026 - Winner
Jagwar

Odds correct at time of publishing.

23. Perceval Legallois

  • Trainer: Gavin Cromwell
  • Jockey: Harry Cobden
  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-9
  • Odds: 33/1

  • Jockey: Sean Flanagan
  • Age: 8

  • Weight: 10-8
  • Odds: 66/1

Winner of the Troytown at Navan in November, the consistent stayer finished fourth in both the Thyestes and Bobbyjo on his way to Aintree this year. Big price for a small yard, John Shinnock is ever-present in the plate.

Rating: **

28. Jordans

  • Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
  • Jockey: Ben Jones
  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 10-8
  • Odds: 33/1

Another seven-year-old, he finished second here at Aintree in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase last year. This season, he’s failed to hit the heights, pulling up in the Thyestes and well beaten in a Listed handicap chase at Leopardstown on his last start. Ben Jones rides for the first time.

Rating: ***

  • Trainer: Gavin Cromwell
  • Jockey: Conor Stone-Walsh
  • Age: 10

Rating: ***

30. Marble Sands

  • Jockey: Tom Bellamy
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 10-5
  • Odds: 50/1

Rating: **

31. Panic Attack

  • Trainer: Dan Skelton
  • Jockey: Harry Skelton
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 10-5
  • Odds: 8/1

Well-backed for this following a third-place finish in the Mares’ Chase at the Festival last month. Has had a great season, winning the old-Hennessy at Newbury in the Autumn and following that up with a demolition job in a Listed Mares’ contest at Newbury before Cheltenham.

Rating: ****

Grand National 2026 - Winner
Panic Attack

Odds correct at time of publishing.

32. Top Of The Bill

  • Trainer: Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies
  • Jockey: Toby McCain-Mitchell
  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 10-5

  • Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill
  • Jockey: Richie McLernon
  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-4
  • Odds: 12/1

Cheltenham Festival winner of the Ultima, just gets in at the weights. He’ll be raised 6lbs for that effort in the future, and there’s a lot to like about this stayer who wasn’t stopping up the hill beating Jagwar. Richie McLernon keeps the ride, stable in form.

Rating: ****

34. Twig

  • Trainer: Ben Pauling
  • Jockey: Beau Morgan
  • Age: 8
