Fontwell Park Racecourse

With five British and Irish meetings on Wednesday, there's lots of racing to cater for all tastes. Among it all is a jumps card from Fontwell Park, where they have seven races from 17:10-20:10 on ground forecast to be good to soft, good in places.

My Fontwell Park tips includes one with a progressive profile who should be well up to winning a race of today's nature.

  • 18:10 - My Gift To You @ 5/2
  • 18:40 - Westtara e/w @ 40/1

17:10 - Royal Regard e/w @ 20/1

Opening the competitive evening card at Fontwell is this 2m5½f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle for horses rated 0-100 - and despite coming with big risks attached, Neil Mulholland's ROYAL REGARD is capable of running a career-best.

The six-year-old has been beaten a combined 210-lengths in his four outings this year, but he went well for a long way when fourth behind the progressive Plaisir Des Flos over 2m4f at Wincanton in March.

Sent off an 80/1 outsider on the day, he was up with the pace throughout and only weakened out of it after the second-last. The winner has won a further two races subsequently and the handicapper has dropped the selection a further four pounds.

Royal Regard has an each-way chance - with Betfred paying four places - in an open handicap.

18:10 - My Gift To You @ 5/2

Next on my agenda is the 2m3½f handicap chase, where Joe Tizzard's Sherborne tops the weights. However, the horse they all have to beat here is James Owen's MY GIFT TO YOU, with Alex Chadwick aboard.

Chadwick is a seven-pound claimer who rode this horse for the first time at Catterick in March, and he gave the gelding a beautiful ride on the day, running away with it in the closing stages to win as he liked.

Surprisingly, the handicapper only raised the progressive runner four pounds for that impressive victory, so he still looks well treated.

My Gift To You is versatile with regard to ground and he can go in again.

18:40 - Westtara e/w @ 40/1

Diana Grissell's WESTTARA has a chance of upsetting the odds in this 3m2f handicap hurdle.

The nine-year-old came back from a 1058-day absence to run a cracker in a Plumpton maiden hurdle over 2m4½f last month, there with every chance at the second-last but reeled in by a pair of rivals late on.

Westtara ran nowhere near that level when tailing off on his handicap debut here over 2m3f just 18 days later, but the step up in trip might bring out the required improvement and a repeat of his Plumpton run should see him in the mix at the very least.

At a huge price, he's worth a small each-way bet.
