Epsom racecourse

Five UK and Irish race meetings head our way on Thursday, and the highlight of the action is day three of the Glorious Goodwood Festival.

I've taken a look at the six-race card on offer at Epsom and picked out my three best bets of the day. Below you will find my Epsom Tips for Thursday, July 31.

Epsom Tips - Thursday, July 31

  • 19:00 Epsom - King's Castle @ 10/11
  • 19:30 Epsom - Revelance @ 9/4
  • 20:00 Epsom - Miakoda @ 11/4

19:00 Epsom - King's Castle @ 10/11

Six runners have been declared for this Class 5 handicap over 1m 4f and one who is in fine form at the moment is KING'S CASTLE for David Simcock's yard. The eight-year-old has been under his charge since June and after a disappointing start at Wolverhampton (seventh of eight, 1m 4f)) for the trainer, it was followed with back-to-back successes at Ffos Las and Sandown last time out (both 1m 2f).

As a four-time winning hurdler, the rise in trip should be no issue here and the son of Camelot is the one to beat. He's in much better shape than his rivals but there will be hope that the fitting of a hood won't backfire at Epsom.

The trusted Taryn Langley is booked for this ride, having been on board King's Castle for his past three appearances for Simcock's yard.

19:30 Epsom - Revelance @ 9/4

REVELANCE is who I have my eye on in this Class 4 fillies' handicap over 1m 1/2f. A short field of four horses features in this one and each of them have decent claims.

Pink Azalea is looking to be her biggest threat, having prevailed on her past two starts at Carlisle and Ripon (both 1m). Revelance landed her maiden success on her third start last time out at Salisbury (7f) in her first appearance of the season, in which she was the odds-on favourite. She beat a previous winner with the pair dominant at the front, having made all on that occasion.

She fared well over 1m on her second ride at Kempton (AW) in November, finishing second of 14. So this step up shouldn't be an issue for the two-year-old who looks like she has a big future in handicaps.

20:00 Epsom - Miakoda @ 11/4

I round off my selections with MIAKODA, representing James Owen's yard in this Class 6 handicap over 7f. The three-year-old arrives here off the back of his second career success, achieved at Chepstow over this trip, defeating On A Vespa by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

There were seven rivals on that occasion but there is one more to handle at Epsom on Thursday. It was his second ride with a visor and tongue strap, with the previous effort (also at Chepstow) ending with a second-place finish.

Having quickly led last time out, we can expect him to try and get out in front early doors, and he has shown he has the stamina to hold on, so he is likely to be a strong contender once again. Miakoda reunited with Pat Cosgrove, who steered him to victory on his latest outing.

20:00 Epsom - Winner Miakoda
