Epsom Racecourse

With five British and Irish meetings taking place across Wednesday there is plenty of racing action to cater for all tastes. Amongst the action in Today's Horse Races will be the Flat card from Epsom Downs, where they have six races from 18:20-21:00 on ground forecast to be 'good-good to firm in places'.

We've picked out a trio to follow at the Surrey venue including one trained by Adam West, who has hit the crossbar a few times of late and deserves a return back to the winner's circle.

Epsom Downs Tips - Wednesday, July 3

  • 18:20 – Daisy Roots @ 5/1
  • 19:25 – Get It @ 5/2
  • 21:00 – Justcallmepete @ 5/1

18:20 – Daisy Roots @ 5/1

Opening the card on the Downs is the 1m2f apprentice handicap and, down near the foot of the weights, DAISY ROOTS should take some stopping if she can put her best foot forward.

Trained by Adam West, the Footstepsinthesand filly last tasted success on the all-weather at Lingfield over a mile back in October, but she has gone close several times this year on turf.

Daisy Roots only found one too good at Brighton in April and she followed that up with another pair of runner-up finishes at Lingfield and Brighton again.

Undoubtedly frustrating at times, she didn't run her best race at Chester last time but it was a very messy race and she got bumped about. She has stamina to prove but could get away with it on a speedy track, which Epsom will provide.

19:25 – Get It @ 5/2

Six runners are set to go to post for a competitive renewal of the 6f handicap and, often seen running well in some of the top handicaps in Britain and Ireland, Mr Wagyu will certainly have his supporters.

He's probably best running in large fields though and with that in mind, GET IT might be the answer. The six-year-old had a spell in Bahrain in the early part of the year but came back from a break to win nicely at Windsor last month off a mark of 88.

This will be a bit tougher as he is now 4lb higher in the weights, but he has won off this mark in the past and unlike some of his rivals he comes here in top form.

21:00 – Justcallmepete @ 5/1

Closing out the card is the 7f handicap and one horse who is starting to look dangerously well-handicapped is the James Evans-trained JUSTCALLMEPETE.

A six-time winner on the all-weather, the five-year-old is yet to win on grass but he has gone close a few times and he ran a big race in a competitive York handicap last time, when fourth of 16 runners.

Now effectively 3lb lower in the weights if you factor in the extra few pounds Joe Leavy can claim on this occasion, he looks set to run a big race again and hopefully he can get off the mark on this surface for the first time.
