Duke of Cambridge Stakes 2025 Tips: One Look won’t need second chance

The Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at 15:40 is for fillies and mares over a mile, with the dead eight set to go to post headlined by the Charlie Appleby-trained Cinderella's Dream.

However, it is an ultra-competitive field with cases to be made for plenty and there may be an each-way contender to serve it up to the supposed Godolphin hotpot. Read on for my Duke of Cambridge Stakes tips.

Cinderella’s Dream put two of these rivals firmly in their place when winning a Group 2 prize at Newmarket on her seasonal return at the beginning of May and a 45-day break is unlikely to be the reason if she fails to follow up at Royal Ascot.

On that evidence, Elmalka and Running Lion have their work cut out to turn the tables, but a 3Ib penalty against some better rivals could be Cinderella’s Dream’s undoing.

Fallen Angel, likely to be sent off second favourite to Godolphin’s charge, is a fascinating contender on her drop in grade, as her last six runs have come in Group One company.

That includes success in the Irish 1,000 Guineas last season and, if returning to that form, Karl Burke’s filly could be the one that they all have to beat.

However, it was only a respectable return to action from her in the Lockinge - she was beaten just under six lengths - and she could have some pace pressure from the likes of Running Lion and Soprano, while Elmalka is no stranger to going forward either.

But if they go quick then that could give a good chance to Irish raider ONE LOOK, who has form over further and likes to be held up off a strong gallop.

Trainer Paddy Twomey does excellently with a select string and this lightly-raced four-year-old has been a model of consistency, winning four times and finishing second on three occasions from only nine career starts.

One Look’s latest second to last season’s Coronation Stakes heroine Porta Fortuna reads exceptionally well in the shape of this race, especially given that filly had also led home Fallen Angel in the Matron Stakes as a three-year-old.

With quick ground holding no barrier, One Look could be finishing fastest of all and, with eight runners going to post, looks an each-way bet worth considering.
