Horse Racing Tips: Carroll could be beaming with Pride at Epsom

Flat racing holds sway across the UK on Thursday, with just one of the five scheduled meetings offering jump action. There are some interesting cards on offer and this has given me plenty to think about when making the selections for my Daily Double.

Daily Double - Thursday 16 July 2026

15:50 Chepstow - Dappled Light @ 10/3
After a rocky start to the season at Bath in April, DAPPLED LIGHT has quickly turned his fortunes around. The six-year-old gelding returned to Somerset twice after that seventh from eight finish, landing back-to-back successes over the same distance (1m).
He'll cover this trip at Chepstow on Thursday as he bids to get back to winning ways. The offspring of Twilight Son had to settle for second on his latest appearance at Ffos Las on 30 June (7½f). It was still a strong performance from Adrian Wintle's runner, so he's in a good position to respond at the first time of asking.
Dappled Light has five rivals to overcome at Chepstow, but his chances are favourable because he boasts the strongest form of the field. Finley Marsh is booked for this ride, and the jockey steered Dappled Light to victory over C&D in May last year.

19:30 Epsom - Pride Of Nepal @ 15/2
Evening action comes from Epsom and there are six races to look forward to on this card. There are eight runners declared for the 19:30 Class 4 handicap over 1m4f, and the standout selection for this contest is PRIDE OF NEPAL for Tony Carroll's yard.
The eight-year-old gelding is going through the best spell of his career, having won on each of his previous four starts. The first three were over 1m2f at Windsor, Lingfield and Chepstow respectively.
He stepped back up in trip to 1m4f on his last outing at Ripon on 18 June and he had no troubles as he made it four successes on the bounce. The son of The Gurkha boasts the strongest claims at Epsom and I can't see his momentum being halted on Thursday.
Pride of Nepal's gone off as the favourite in each of his past three appearances, so he's well worth backing again.
