Ascot Tips: Two selections to look out for on Saturday

With eight UK and Irish race meetings to coming our way on Saturday, there is plenty of action to choose from. Ascot could be the place to be, though, with an interesting seven-race card in store.

Below you will find my Ascot Tips for Saturday, July 12.

15:30 Ascot - Chiringita @ 7/2

CHIRINGITA posted her first career victory on her latest appearance at Sandown in June, beating Cradle Of Love by two lengths over a 1m trip. It was her first attempt over such a distance as well as her handicap debut - and it was a test she passed with flying colours.

It was a win that you felt had been coming for some time and now the next step will be to build on that and finding a consistent rhythm. It's the same trip for the filly here as she makes her first appearance at Ascot.

There's a 5lb to think about here but I don't think it will have much of an impact for the three-year-old. The going looks favourable for Chiringita on Saturday and I am expecting her to be a strong contender.

16:50 Ascot - Alzahir @ 12/1

I turn to a familiar face for the penultimate race of the day in the form of ALZAHIR. I tipped him for success at Epsom last week, which has now made it back-to-back victories for the five-year-old.

He underwent wind surgery in February and it appears to have the desired effect as he has claimed four handicaps (two over 7f and two over 6f). This will be his first attempt over 5f which looks to be a tricky test, especially in a stacked field, with 18 currently declared for Saturday.

Trainer Jennie Candlish and connections will be interested to see how he fares over a reduction in trip but given his recent form they should fancy his chances to adapt well and deliver another impressive performance.

He'll have the added advantage of a rail draw, too, so I like his chances, particularly at 12/1 - which looks even better when the ground conditions are looking optimal for him.
