There are five meetings across Britain and Ireland to enjoy on Tuesday 18th July 2023, with Flat action from Beverley Lingfield, Killarney and Nottingham plus a Jumps card at Southwell – and we’ve got a trio of fancies to follow across the day.

Tuesday’s Racing Tips

  • 4.00 Lingfield – Rogue Rosie @ 5/2
  • 4.55 Beverley – Zinc White @ 11/10
  • 8.00 Nottingham – Strong Johnson @ 11/2

The Legends & EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes features some promising types and ROGUE ROSIE (5/2) is put forward to score on second outing for Tom Clover.

The Magna Grecia filly was sent off favourite on debut at Newbury (6f, good to firm) last month but she was a bit keen early on and could only finish fourth in the end.

She only faded late and that experience should stand to her now. This Lingfield race represents an easier challenge for her and with the stable enjoying a good spell recently, Robert Havlin is taken to bring her home in front.

The 137th Year Of The Watt Memorial Handicap, a Class 3 contest for stayers over two-miles, is the feature race at Beverley this afternoon and it looks a good opening for the Ian Williams-trained ZINC WHITE (11/10) to get back to winning ways.

He began his career in the care of Ralph Beckett and toiled in maiden/novice company around the mile distance in the autumn of 2020, before returning in the spring of 2021 with successive wins at Wetherby and Sandown on soft ground upped significantly in trip to 1m6f.

He then moved to Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero, for whom he started only once, being pulled up over hurdles at Ffos Las in October of that same year.

He joined the Williams yard and made his stable bow after some 561 days off, defying that absence with a commanding Chester Plate win in May over two-and-a-quarter-miles.

He went up 8lb and tackled the Ascot Stakes last month, where the fast ground may not have suited.

He takes a drop in class now and has conditions underfoot to suit him. He remains unexposed as a stayer and is fancied to justify his spot on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder by landing this Beverley heat.

Finally, it may be worth chancing STRONG JOHNSON (11/2) for trainer Paul Midgley in this Nottingham sprint.

The 7YO is a five-time turf winner, with seven more placed efforts in his 30 starts. He moved to this trainer at the end of last year and, after five starts, has dropped from a mark of 92 to his current perch of 75.

He was beaten just over three-lengths at Doncaster this month in a Class 2 contest and is now taking a significant ease in grade, with the handicapper having eased him a further 2lb.

Further to that, Connor Planas takes off 5lb in the saddle. This is a competitive sprint but dropping into this company for the first time, Strong Johnson may be worth chancing in this Betfred Extra Place Race (four places).
