Saturday Greyhounds Tips: Monmore and Oxford take centre stage

Trap2Line has lined-up a pair of selections for Saturday evening, one from Monmore and one from Oxford. Read on to see his picks for this sunny Saturday.

19:14 Oxford - T5 (Balinakill Liam) @ SP

Debut here last week over two bends and from a slow beginning ran off at the first bend badly and lost all chance. That was the first look here and other than that manoeuvre at the first bend showed some good pace. Does have some good translatable form at Monmore and normally exceptional early pace which will help tonight.

How I see the race going - T1 slow into stride grader here, will struggle with this step up in class. T2 our danger after a sub-27 second run here before going over to Hove, as drawn will crowd with T1 on the run-up which could cost the bitch a decent position heading into the first bend. T3 is an Irish sprinter, hasn't shown much form since arriving, struggled over this trip last week, not for me. T4 is a true middle runner, very consistent on times and will get competitive at some stage in this but I see us being too far clear for it to matter. T6 sprinter doesn't stay four bends at race pace, maybe prominent early but should fade in the second half of the race. So back to us, I expect a really quick getaway, pace up to lead at bend, run the bends better this week after last weeks debut and go away to win well, lots of goalkeepers in behind in T3 and T6 to hold the finishers up, very confident.

21: 23 Monmore - T4 (Intriguing Iris) @ SP

Really impressive last week, coming from mid-pack to win the race going away in a quick time for the 630m distance. It will be harder this evening with stronger rivals so we will need to be on our toes early with this change of draw and being moved further away from the rails, but as drawn I don't think that will matter.

How I see this race being run - T1 led all bar close home last week, could be competitive off the front if we get held up at any point. T2 ran well in T1 race last week and only failed to get to the winner by a short head, maybe a danger if this turns into a crowded race. T3 good form at valley but struggled here last week, slow to go and finished last with a clear run, again I see this one being the outsider and not getting into this race tonight. T5 local grader was a big price last week and came second, but the time was six lengths slower than us so not for me. So back to us, we can be prominent and get the first run on T2, follow the pace in T1 and pick these up by the fifth bend to win going away off the last. Solid chance.
