Vitor Pereira's charges will place more emphasis on trying to keep City out of their own goal, and that focus on defence may see the Old Gold struggle to create many opportunities going the other way.

City have won each of their past three opening-day fixtures, keeping a clean sheet in all three, and I predict something similar for Pep Guardiola's side on Saturday.

First Goalscorer - Erling Haaland (MCI)

Erling Haaland's goalscoring numbers dropped last season, but the City striker still ended the campaign with 22 Premier League strikes to his name, despite missing seven games.

The 25-year-old is back fit and firing now, though, and after scoring in his last three matches at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup in the USA, he grabbed the first goal in City's 3-0 friendly victory over Palermo last weekend.

Haaland boasts a terrific record against Wolves, sticking eight in their net across five head-to-heads, opening the scoring twice.

Player Shown Any Card - Rayan Ait-Nouri (MCI)

After signing Matheus Nunes from Molineux in 2023, City raided Wolves again earlier this summer, recruiting Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who had spent five successful seasons in the West Midlands.

The 24-year-old will make an instant return to his old home this weekend, and I'm backing him to pick up a card - but not one of the 'welcome back' or 'we missed you' variety.

His direct opponent on Saturday is likely to be Arias, who was fouled, on average, 2.8 times per game in this year's Brazilian Serie A for Fluminense before being tempted over to England by Wolves.

The Colombian attacker, who generally plays down the right-hand side, but can be deployed on the left, also unsettled defenders at the Club World Cup, where he was fouled, on average, 2.2 times per game, drawing a yellow card from Borussia Dortmund's left-sided centre-back Ramy Bensebaini inside the first minute of their goalless draw on June 17.

Arias is a full-back's nightmare, and Ait Nouri is prone to a yellow, picking up seven in each of his last two Premier League campaigns and receiving one red for two bookable offences.

Player Shown Any Card - Joao Gomes (WOL)

Another candidate in the player card market, Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, has picked up 11 yellows in each of his last two Premier League seasons, and he was dismissed for two in one game against Arsenal.

The 24-year-old was booked at Molineux last October as City struck in injury time to win 2-1, doubling his yellow-card tally against the Citizens following a caution at the Etihad earlier that year.

Tasked with containing the talents of Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Omar Marmoush on Saturday, the Brazilian will need to be at his tenacious best, and his eagerness to win the ball back could end up with him going into the referee's notebook.
