Aston Villa or Draw - double chance

West Ham and Aston Villa were both top-10 teams in the Premier League last season and with the Hammers hopeful of taking a step forward under their new manager the teams could finish even closer together in the league table this time around.

Villa will have to juggle their league fixtures with participation in the Champions League but that's not a problem just yet and they are capable of opening their account for the season by taking at least a point at the London Stadium.

A draw looks a realistic outcome as there could be a new air of positivity at West Ham this season, but the visitors look the more likely team to take all three points.

Both these teams should continue to be more admired for their enterprising attacking than any defensive sturdiness and with both back-lines potentially needing more time to become cohesive units, the forward players should have the upper hand in this clash.

These teams are used to finding the net against each other, with both teams scoring in eight of their last nine meetings and the Hammers notching a goal in every one of those fixtures.

Last season there were five goals in their first encounter as Villa won 4-1 at home in October, with two goals from Douglas Luiz plus further strikes from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey.

Jarrod Bowen scored West Ham's consolation and may be boosted by wearing the captain's armband for the Londoners.

Villa ended last season with a 3-3 home draw against Liverpool and a forgettable 5-0 loss at Crystal Palace and they could resume the high-scoring theme at the start of the new campaign.
