The second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 is upon us and West Ham need to overturn a 1-0 deficit to Freiburg at the London Stadium on Thursday afternoon (17:45). We've previewed this one and given you our betting prediction.

West Ham vs Freiburg Betting Tips

  • West Ham to win and Both teams to score @ 5/2
  • Christian Gunter to have a shot - 10/11

West Ham and David Moyes can't escape Freiburg at the moment.

After beating them home and away in the group stages, the Hammers were handed a surprising defeat at the Europa-Park Stadion and have it all to do to turn that result around and reach the Europa League quarter-finals.

It doesn't help that the east London side are in mediocre form, winning just twice in 2024 thus far and well below par when coming from behind to draw 2-2 with lowly Burnley at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Freiburg followed a creditable draw against Bayern Munich with a 2-1 win away at Bochum to maintain their excellent run. Can they now go one better and get past the Hammers into the last eight?

Team news

Maxwel Cornet is still unavailable due to a hamstring pull suffered in training, whilst Emerson is also a doubt to feature here.

Freiburg could be without as many as six of their squad here but manager Christian Streich will likely start with the same XI as the first leg.

Match odds

West Ham come into this one as the hot 8/11 favourites implying a 58% chase, with Freiburg at 7/1 and the draw is available at 3/1.

Both under and over 2.5 goals are priced at 5/6, whilst both teams to score is a 4/5 shot.

West Ham to win and Both teams to score @ 5/2

The bookmakers have this one as a potentially low-scoring affair but I disagree.

West Ham have seen their last three Premier League games end 4-2, 3-1 and 2-2  and their two games before that were a 6-0 and a 2-0 loss, so there are clear issues at the back.

Meanwhile, Freiburg have seen five of their last six games end with BTTS, with only the first leg seeing a clean sheet. I'm going to bank on a raucous London Stadium to drag Moyes' side over the line, to at least take the game to extra time.

Christian Gunter to have a shot - 10/11

The 31-year-old left-sided defender has been playing more advanced of late and likes a shot from range. He is averaging a shot every other game and managed one in the first leg.
