West Brom vs Blackburn Prediction: Hosts’ impressive home form to continue

West Bromwich Albion welcome Blackburn Rovers to The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (15:00) in the Championship with 10 points and 12 places separating the two sides. 

Rovers were 2-1 winners at Ewood Park when the two teams met earlier in the season, but Albion are a much stronger force and they are showing their play-off credentials. The visitors have been in horrid form of late in the second tier. They have won just one of their last eight, losing six of them.

West Brom are the 4/6 favourites to win this contest given their league positioning (fifth) but it might also be down to the fact they have lost two of 13 Championship matches at home this campaign. A draw can be backed at 13/5, while Rovers are 10/3 to get back to winning ways.

Team News

The hosts are going to be without duo Josh Maja, Jayson Molumby and Matt Phillips due to injury. Striker Daryl Dike marked his return to action with a goal against Aldershot Town in the FA Cup last weekend, and he will be pushing for some involvement against Blackburn. The Baggies are hoping that key duo Jed Wallace and John Swift will be able to return to the squad this weekend following their respective injuries.

Rovers are going to be without a few first team stars this weekend. Sam Gallagher, Tyrhys Dolan, Joe Rankin-Costello, Ryan Hedges and Aynsley Pears are all in the treatment room.

West Brom have made The Hawthorns a fortress this term with just two defeats there in the league. They have only conceded four goals in their last 10 outings at home, which has contributed to their rise into the play-off places.

They've won two of their last five Championship fixtures, including a 1-0 win over Leeds, so they won't be fazed by a Rovers side who are going through a rough patch. Momentum is with them and they should be able to get the win here but we do fancy Rovers to get on the scoresheet too.

With the division's leading marksman in Sammie Szmodics (16) in their side, no matter how bad Blackburn are performing, his quality in front of goal will always give them a chance.

Brandon Thomas-Asante to score anytime @ 13/8

While Rovers boast the top scorer in Szmodics, Albion have a goalscorer of their own. Brandon Thomas-Asante, who signed for the club from Salford City in 2022, has adjusted well from the step up from League Two to the Championship.

The striker has seven goals in the league this term and has scored three in his last seven appearances. He has blanked in his last two league outings and against a very fragile Rovers defence that have conceded the second-highest amount of goals this year (48). This will give him an excellent opportunity to add to his tally and we like the odds of 13/8 for him to do so.
