Wales vs Netherlands Prediction: Fruitful evening for the Oranje

Wales make their Uefa Women's European Championship finals debut on Saturday (17:00, BBC iPlayer) when they face the Netherlands. The Dragons are being handed a baptism of fire by facing the 2017 European champions, but they are also in a group with reigning champions England and France.
It's going to be a very demanding group stage for the debutants and they will out to give a good account of themselves. Read on for my Wales vs Netherlands predictions, accompanied by the latest team news and match odds.
Wales vs Netherlands Betting Tips
Team News
Wales defender Mayzee Davies is missing the tournament after she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in last month’s Uefa Nations League defeat at the hands of Denmark.
Sophie Ingle has recovered from a long-term knee injury to make the 23-player squad, but without any minutes since September, it remains to be seen how much she will feature for the Dragons.
Wales' all-time record goalscorer Jess Fishlock will be looked to for inspiration in Switzerland, but there is a chance she may be utilised as an impact substitute from the bench against some tired Dutch legs.
Wales vs Netherlands Stats
- The Netherlands have scored three goals in two of their last five matches
- Vivianne Miedema (NED) is one goal away from 100 for her country
Dominque Janssen of Manchester United should partner Chelsea youngster Veerle Buurman in the heart of defence, while Manchester City’s Kerstin Casparij and Barcelona’s Esmee Brugts are set to operate as the two full-backs.
Netherlands’ all-time leading goalscorer, Vivianne Miedema, is one goal away from a century for her country and she's likely to be determined to reach that milestone in this Euros opener.
The Man City striker may be aided in the final third by Victoria Pelova, Jill Roord and Danielle van de Donk - her former Arsenal teammate.
Wales are without a win in their previous six matches in all competitions and they are 14/1 to stun the Dutch on Saturday.
The draw can be backed at 11/2, which has been the case in one of the Netherlands' past two fixtures.
The Oranje have won four of their last six games and they are the 1/5 favourites to collect the three points. Better value can be found by adding both teams to score, which has struck in six of their seven matches in 2025.
This is priced at 2/1, which has an implied probability of 33.3%.
Over 2.5 Netherlands goals @ 1/1
The Netherlands are a well-seasoned unit on this stage and they will be feeling optimistic that they can get off to a flying start at Euro 25 against debutants Wales. In Miedema, Roord, Van de Donk, Sherida Spitse and Lineth Beerensteyn, the Oranje are filled with prolific goalscorers on the international stage, and that experience might just be too much for the Dragons to handle.
I believe the Netherlands can have a very productive evening in front of goal, so I am backing them to score at least three in this Group D opener, which the Dutch have managed in two of their last five matches in all competitions.
It's also worth noting that Wales looked defensively vulnerable in their last appearance ahead of the Euros, as they were beaten 4-1 by Italy in the Nations League. The Netherlands could profit from this as they bid to fire a warning to both England and France.

Vivianne Miedema anytime goalscorer @ 8/11
In world football, I don't think there are many better strikers than Miedema, who has delivered on a consistent basis throughout the years of her career. The 28-year-old is going to be a huge asset to boss Andries Jonker over the coming weeks because of her brilliant goalscoring capabilities.
But she offers much more than that as she holds the ball up well and links up play with her teammates. She will be the focal point in this team and as one of the European champions from 2017, she has the experience needed to help the younger members of the squad playing at this level.
Wales will know too well about the threat she possesses but being able to stop her is another thing entirely. I will be very surprised if she is not on the scoresheet in this contest.
