Wales will play their first-ever match at a major tournament on Saturday when they face Netherlands in the Uefa Women's European Championships (17:00 BST, live on BBC iPlayer).

Rhian Wilkinson’s side created history last November, as they qualified for the tournament after negotiating past two play-offs ties. The Netherlands will know that they need to start their tournament off with a win, given that they're in what looks the group of death with England and France.

Andries Jonker’s side have won 17 of their last 22 games at the World Cup and Euros, so it's easy to see why they're so heavily-favoured against Wales, who's lack of experience on the big stage may come back to haunt them.

As mentioned in the introduction, the Oranje enjoyed a solid Nations League campaign finishing second in their group, and they also qualified for this tournament by finishing second - behind Italy only on goal difference.

Wales had a decent enough Nations League campaign themselves, but the recent 4-1 defeat at home to Italy will still be fresh in the mind.

Despite that defeat to Italy that I've mentioned above, Wales do tend to have low-scoring games against high-quality opponents.

In addition, the Netherlands did not score more than once in any of their qualifiers for this tournament, but a high-scoring game isn't a forgone conclusion.

Wilkinson’s side will be desperate to avoid the wooden spoon in Group D, so I can see a defensive set-up being deployed here, keeping the goals to a premium.

Player to Score at Anytime - Vivianne Miedema

If one player is set to make a difference for the Netherlands, it's likely to be Vivianne Miedema.

Miedema is currently stuck on 99 goals for her country, and the Manchester City forward scored twice in a 2-1 friendly win over Finland in the build-up to this tournament.

She'll be desperate to reach a century of goals for the Oranje and she'll feel that this game represents the best opportunity to do so, with games against England and France to come.
