La Liga takes another turn in midweek as high-flying Girona travel to Villarreal for a mouth-watering encounter. It’s 12th vs 2nd in Spain’s top flight, and we kick off at 6pm on Wednesday night.

Girona to win

They may currently be priced as outsiders but Girona are in flying form heading into this one. They are currently unbeaten in La Liga, have won five of their six fixtures so far and no side in the league has scored more than the 16 goals they have registered this season.

After a 10th place finish last term, manager Michel Sanchez was rewarded with a new contract and his side have gone from strength to strength. They’ve been superb so far this season and they come up against a Villarreal side still searching for some defensive solidity.

They currently sit 12th, and drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano on their last outting as Alberto Moreno was sent off. Now Juan José Rojo Martín will be without his starting left-back for this clash, only further troubling an unsteady back line. They’ve conceded four to Barcelona, three to Cadiz, and lost to Olympiakos in the Europa League. They don’t look as good as the side that finished 5th last term, and we could be in for another away win here.

Girona to score over 2.5 goals

Girona are on fire in front of goal. They hit five goals against Granada and four against Mallorca in their last two matches, and their goalscoring shows no sign of slowing down. Their attack has been so ruthless this season that backing them to score three times or more here doesn’t seem unreasonable by any stretch, given the shaky defence they are up against.

The 4/1 on offer for them to do so makes this bet one of my favourites of the week. They’ve shown they have what it takes to tear teams apart, and they could continue their perfect start with another goalfest on Wednesday night.
