Villarreal vs Celta Vigo Prediction: Goals to keep on coming at La Ceramica

Two struggling sides in La Liga meet at Estadio de la Ceramica on Wednesday night (KO, 20:30), as Rafael Benitez takes his Celta Vigo team to Villarreal.

Benitez has endured a dismal start to his tenure at Celta but the Sky Blues do look to have turned a corner of late, losing just once in their last six. The only win in that time came on Saturday against Granada, which was their first victory in the league since September 1.

Villarreal, meanwhile, are without a win in their last three La Liga matches and are only three points ahead of their next opponents, who occupy the final relegation spot.

Villarreal vs Celta Vigo Betting Tips:

  • Both teams to score @ 8/13
  • Villarreal or draw and over 2.5 goals @ 7/4

Team News

Villarreal's 4-1 defeat at Real Madrid on Sunday was costly for several reasons, not least because a yellow card for Etienne Capoue has ruled the Frenchman out of Wednesday's clash with Celta.

Top scorer Gerard Moreno will also be absent in midweek after being forced off with an injury against Jude Bellingham and co, while Alex Baena could join the 31-year-old and the likes of Francis Coquelin, Juan Foyth, Yeremy Pino and Denis Suarez on the treatment table.

Celta will be without their own talismanic figure up front, Iago Aspas, after the ex-Liverpool striker was shown a red card on Saturday. In his place is likely to be Greek forward Anastasios Douvikas, who has scored twice in La Liga this season.

Match Odds

Villarreal are 11/8 to win at home for just the third time this season, with a draw at 5/2 and Celta 9/5 to record back-to-back victories.

Both teams to score is 8/13 and it's 2/1 for over 3.5 goals.

Issues at the back have plagued Villarreal this season with only Almeria (39) and Granada (37) - La Liga's bottom two clubs - shipping more goals than their tally of 33.

They've had little problem scoring themselves though, with 23 goals in 17 games more than every club outside the top six.

With these defensive and attacking statistics in mind, it's little wonder that both teams have scored in 14 games - twice more than any other side in the league.

BTTS - Yes has landed in nine Celta Vigo matches in La Liga this term and in four of the last five league meetings between these sides.

Villarreal or draw and over 2.5 goals @ 7/4

Seven of the last nine La Liga games involving Villarreal have produced three or more goals, and 12 of their 17 this term. Goals have been especially prevalent at home, with eight of their nine matches at Estadio de la Ceramica seeing the over 2.5 bet land.

It's been tough for the Yellow Submarine at home but they should be buoyed by their recent record against Celta. Villarreal have avoided defeat in six of their last seven against Wednesday's opponents, with three of them producing at least four goals.

The visitors have kept back-to-back clean sheets on their travels but they've also conceded multiple goals in four away games this season. Villarreal have scored at least twice on four occasions at home, and should be getting at least a point from this fixture as they seek to move up the table and away from danger.

Villarreal or draw and over 2.5 goals vs Celta Vigo at 7-4
