UE Santa Coloma vs Midtjylland Prediction: Danish side to cook in Andorra

It may only be July, but the Champions League has already kicked into action and the second qualifying round takes centre stage on Tuesday night. UE Santa Coloma of Andorra will host FC Midtjylland, with kick-off at 19:00 as both sides strive to take the advantage ahead of the second leg. 

The Andorran champions beat KF Ballkani on penalties to make it this far after a thrilling 3-3 draw, while the Danish giants enter at this stage having won their very first league title in 2023/24. Team News

UE Santa Coloma’s manager Anton appears to be able to field the same side as he did on Tuesday. Chete and Pablo Molina were among five players taken off last time out, but it is believed that was a tactical move. Christian Garcia will play at the back with Chete as the home side look to give themselves a solid platform to take into the second leg. 

Meanwhile the visitors are without Mikel Gogorz and Valdemar Byskov, both of whom are playing at the U19 European Championship, while Emi Martinez (not that one) was a part of Uruguay’s Copa America squad this summer and may not return in time for this game. Gue-sung Cho has suffered a serious knee injury and Marrony has a similar issue, so both are out for this one.

UE Santa Coloma are the big outsiders for this one, priced at 11/1 to win. Meanwhile, Midtjylland are available at 2/11, a draw is 9/2 and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/9.

FC Midtjylland to win to nil @ 10/11

This is fairly straightforward in my opinion. Although the Andorran champions did well to make it through round one, there is a massive gap in quality between them and the Danish giants. Midtjylland played in the Europa League group stage in 2022/23, and were in the group stage of the Champions League as recently as 2020/21.

They’ve proven themselves to be decent competitors in Europe on a consistent basis over the last five years and should have no problems beating UE Santa Coloma over two legs. In fact, even the away leg should be a breeze for them, and I think we can back them to win to nil to boost our odds to 10/11.

HT/FT - Midtjylland/Midtjylland @ 4/6

Thomas Thomasberg is in charge of Midtjylland and he will be looking to lay down a marker early on here. His side drew their first game of this season 1-1, but I believe they will teach Santa Coloma a lesson as they visit Andorra. Unfortunately, the chasm in quality is large and in my eyes it will lead to an uneven match, dominated by the visitors. 

They should be able to beat a side who needed penalties to be Kosovan champions KF Ballkani in the last round, after a 3-3 draw on aggregate. Despite playing against 10-men for over an hour, the Andorrans needed an own goal in the 92nd minute to force extra-time, and then only came through on penalties. They weren’t the better side over two legs, and they are likely to get found out here.
