Tottenham hotspur vs wolves

After four defeats in their last five, Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of a win, and will hoping to transform their fortunes when they take on Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (15:00).

The visitors, meanwhile, have enjoyed a perfect start under new boss Vitor Pereira, having beat Leicester City and Manchester United in the Portuguese manager's opening two matches. Read on for my Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur's defensive crisis was heightened in their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, as Djed Spence was sent off - and will be suspended for the visit of Wolves - while Radu Dragusin sustained an ankle injury.

Ben Davies, Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are still sidelined with fitness problems, so Ange Postecoglou will have to field a makeshift defence on Sunday. Archie Grey could reprise his role as centre-back, while Destiny Udogie's return against Forest last time out was a welcomed one.

As for Wolves, Matheus Cunha was the star of the show in the 2-0 win against Manchester United on Boxing Day, scoring a goal as well as assisting the other, but the threat of a ban still hangs over the Brazilian, with the FA yet to decide his punishment after a confrontation with members of Ipswich Town's coaching staff after their game on December 14.

The likes of Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez, Boubacar Traore, Pablo Sarabia and Sasa Kalajdzic all remain in the treatment room, while Mario Lemina is a doubt for the visitors.

Spurs are 3/5 favourites to claim a much-needed victory, giving them an implied win probability of 62.5%, while the draw can be backed a 4/1, and Wolves are 18/5 to make it three wins from three under Pereira.

Dominic Solanke leads the anytime goalscorer market at 1/1, while Cunha is the shortest-priced for the visitors at 7/4.

Double Chance - Draw or Wolves @ 13/10

I'll preface this pick by saying it depends on whether Cunha will play or whether the FA implement a ban for the Brazilian after his misconduct against Ipswich. If he plays, then I believe Wolves have a great chance of getting something from this game.

As mentioned above, the former Atletico Madrid striker played a starring role against Man United on Boxing Day, scoring directly from a corner before setting up Hwang Hee-chan's late effort to seal a 2-0 victory at Molineux.

Spurs' injury woes have worsened with Dragusin sustaining an ankle problem against Forest, and Spence's suspension could prove costly too. The Lilywhites will have to operate a makeshift defence that the Wolves attackers can expose.

Postecoglou's side have rightly received plaudits for their attacking displays but they're all over the place defensively, which is why I think backing the double chance - draw or Wolves market is a sensible play.

Dominic Solanke to score anytime @ 1/1

Spurs have been a shambles at the back in recent weeks, but they've showed no signs of slowing down going forward and the man at the centre of it all is former Bournemouth marksman Solanke.

The 27-year-old has been in great form for his club, scoring six goals in 15 Premier League appearances this term, including in Spurs' last two home outings against Chelsea and Liverpool.

The England international has had 18 shots on target this season, so no doubt a couple of chances will fall his way on Sunday, and I fancy him to take at least one of them.
