This is the tie of the round in the Carabao Cup as Premier League champions Manchester City travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. With kick-off at 20:15 and the game live on Sky Sports Main Event, all eyes will be on this one as Spurs look to win their first trophy since 2008.

Ange Postecoglou has been bullish in his ‘winning mentality’ this season, but it hasn’t translated to results on the pitch as Spurs currently sit eighth in the Premier League. Meanwhile, City are yet to lose this season in any competition, and sit top of the tree in the league. Below you can find my Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Betting Tips

  • Draw and BTTS @ 3/1
  • Matheus Nunes to score anytime @ 5/1

Team News

Spurs lost at Crystal Palace on Sunday and Postecoglou could use this game to make several changes to his usual XI. Son Heung-min is still out with a thigh injury and Mikey Moore earned his first Premier League start at Selhurst Park. At 17, he could be handed another start here, while Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Richarlison could also come into the side.

Djed Spence scored in the last round at Coventry but is now sidelined with a groin problem, while Ben Davies could come into the defence. It all depends on how much Postecoglou wants to rotate, and how he provokes a reaction after a disappointing display at the weekend.

Football Odds

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is about to take his Manchester City team on a run of four consecutive away games, and he has already hinted that this is the bottom of the list in terms of priority. It means that we can expect several changes from the Spanish boss, with youngsters Kaden Brainthwaite and Nico O’Reilly both earning starts in the previous round v Watford.

James McAtee, Matheus Nunes and Stefan Ortega are also likely to start this one, but it may come too soon for Jack Grealish who is on his way back from injury. Kevin De Bruyne is also out, along with Kyle Walker, Rodri and Oscar Bobb, so there aren’t too many options for Pep to choose from. Phil Foden could play in the false nine role as he did in the last round, with Jeremy Doku also struggling with a muscle issue.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Odds

Tottenham are priced at 6/4 to win this game with Manchester City available at 13/8. That makes Spurs the slight favourites with an implied win probability of 40%. Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/9, BTTS is 2/5 and Erling Haaland is the favourite to score first at 3/1.

Draw and BTTS @ 3/1

I’d usually jump at backing Man City to win at odds of 13/8, but the upcoming schedule and team they are likely to put out puts me off going for the away win. I won’t back Guardiola’s men to lose at Tottenham either though, so a draw after 90 minutes feels like the most likely outcome in my eyes.

Spurs need to respond with a good performance after a tepid display at Palace, and I expect Postecoglou to go pretty strong in terms of line-up for this one. One thing this game should deliver is goals at both ends, given the strength of both attacks. Plus, if City are losing they may chuck on a few of their big guns in order to rescue the tie. Remember, there is no extra time so a draw would take us straight to penalties, which I also think both teams would take before kick-off.

City have enough quality to find the net, while Dominic Solanke, Moore and Brennan Johnson should all be given more minutes to prove they have what it takes here. We should be in for an entertaining evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Matheus Nunes to score anytime @ 5/1

One Manchester City player I would like to pick out to score anytime is Matheus Nunes. He has not featured heavily since joining from Wolves but in the last couple of games he has become a more influential figure. He started on the left against Sparta Prague in the Champions League and delivered one goal and two assists, before playing in the same role against Southampton in the Premier League.

He got the assist in that 1-0 win and I think he should feature from the left again, given the injuries to both Grealish and Doku. Given that duo may be able to play some part soon, I don’t think we need to worry about Nunes being rested, and he is a massive price to find the net at anytime given the attacking intent he has shown of late.
