Leagues Cup action kicks off the day's action and there are some interesting fixtures in store. In Group A, Austin got off to a strong start by beating Pumas UNAM last time out, and they will be expected to win again when they face Monterrey.
Over in Group M, CF Montreal will be looking for a response to their opening defeat to Orlando City when they face San Luis, for whom this will be their first Leagues Cup match of the season. Los Angeles FC are currently top of Group G after their victory over Tijuana, and they will be looking to win again when they entertain the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Necaxa get their Group F campaign underway and they will be looking to capitalise on Minnesota United's defeat to Seattle Sounders in their last fixture. In Group J, New York Red Bulls have a point on the board following their penalty shoot-out loss to Toronto, but they will be hoping for their first win, ideally in 90 minutes when they face Pachuca.
Also taking place in the early hours is an elite club friendly between Barcelona and Manchester City. Barca will be hoping they can push their La Liga rivals Real Madrid a lot closer than they did last term, and this test against the most dominant side in English football will give them an idea of where they are as the new season nears.
City will prepare for what should be another routine season, but with their rivals looking to strengthen around them, they may not be afforded a slow start to the Premier League this time around. They will want to be primed to enjoy a fast start when August 17 rolls around.
Elsewhere, Auda and Cliftonville collide for the second leg of their Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie, with the hosts holding a 2-1 lead as they prepare to get the job done on home soil.
The day's action is completed with a selection of Women's Olympic football matches, with places in the knockout stage to be decided. The standout contest on offer is Australia versus USA, with the Matildas needing a huge performance for their journey in Paris to continue.
After their gripping 6-5 triumph over Zambia on Sunday, you get the feeling that we could be in for another cracker, especially given the quality among both squads.
