Lionel Messi's Inter Miami (2/5) are top of the Eastern Conference presently with 34 points, but Cincinnatti are keeping up the pressure, having claimed their first Supporters' Shield last season. Messi has 10 goals to his name so far and his former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez has 11.
David Beckham's franchise have won their last two games against Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United, so they will be fancying themselves to beat Atlanta United (5/1) on home soil at the Chase Stadium on Thursday morning, particularly as they have lost just twice so far this year.
A point separates New York Red Bulls (4/7) and Charlotte (4/1) as these two go head-to-head at the Red Bull Arena. Both teams finished on the same number of points last season and missed out on the final series, but they are both in a strong position to qualify this year. But there is still more than half the season to play.
This should give us some insight into which one of the two looks the stronger heading into the midway point of the campaign. Above Charlotte by one position and level on 22 points is Toronto (4/1), who travel to Philadelphia Union (4/7), who themselves are just below Charlotte.
Union are four points off the pace in the race for the top seven but having made the final series last term, that experience is sure to come into play as the season progresses.
Over in the Western Conference, second-place Minnesota United (9/2) travel to Los Angeles FC (4/9) in fourth, with one point separating the two sides heading into this fixture. Los Angeles have won three on the bounce and their last home win saw them beat Vancouver 3-0, which will give Minnesota plenty to think about as they head to California.
Los Angeles' neighbours, LA Galaxy (4/9), are also in home action tonight as they take on Dallas (5/1) at Dignity Health Sports Park. Galaxy are third in the table and a point above their local rivals, while Dallas are 12th.
The Western Conference leaders, Real Salt Lake (9/4), travel to ninth-place Seattle Sounders (19/20), looking to extend their four-point gap at the summit. Like Inter Miami, they have lost just twice so far this season and they are unbeaten in their last 11, so momentum is certainly with them as they head to Washington.
