Sweden vs England Bet Builder Tips: Lionesses to progress in 15/2 punt

Sweden and England go head-to-head for a place in the semi-finals at the Uefa European Women's Championship on Thursday (20:00 BST, BBC One) at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich. Sweden cruised through to the knockout stage by winning all of their group games, including a 4-1 triumph over one of the pre-tournament favourites Germany.

England to win

England have looked better with more games under their belt at Euro 25 but they know that there are more gears to be found if they are to defend their crown in Switzerland. Spain, the team who denied them in the World Cup final two years ago, are in frightening form and look the Lionesses' biggest threat to going back-to-back.

They are on opposite sides of the draw but England still face some tough tests in the knockout stage before even thinking about a rematch with La Roja. Sweden is their next opponent and they are a team the Lionesses cannot afford to underestimate.

The Blagult have been one of the most impressive teams at the Euros and their 4-1 victory over Germany was a statement of their intent, which fired a warning to England. They are not the same side that rolled over against the Lionesses in a 4-0 routing at the semi-finals of the last Euros, and this game is expected to be much tighter affair.

Sweden scored eight goals across the group stage and they have an attacking threat England will need to suppress to get through to the semi-finals. Questions were asked about England following their defeat to France but boss Sarina Wiegman has said it brought the group closer together and has given them a sense of urgency.

Wiegman is just as important as the players on the pitch because her wealth of experience is going to be vital for the defending champions in the knockout stage. The Dutch coach has taken teams to the last two finals of the Euros in the Lionesses and the Netherlands back in 2017, while also leading her current team to the World Cup final in 2023.

It's for that reason that I think she will make the right tactical tweaks for the Lionesses to be able to handle what Sweden throw at them on Thursday and I'm backing them to progress inside 90 minutes.

Both teams to score

With eight goals in three matches so far, England are going to find it difficult keeping Sweden's attacking stars quiet. Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig have both bagged two goals for the Blagult so far at this tournament, and both have really impressed during the group stage.

Blackstenius will present an interesting challenge for defender and captain Leah Williamson, with both being teammates at Arsenal. Hurtig has mainly been used as an impact player from the bench, having scored on her last two appearances.

Question marks remain over England's defence, having managed just the one clean sheet in three matches, and Sweden have the quality to open them up. With BTTS having landed in two of the Lionesses' three games thus far, as well as Sweden's tussle with Germany - I think we will see the net bulge at both ends on Thursday night.

There are several players among both squads who are worth considering for goalscorer bets, having mentioned two of them above for Sweden. For England, you have a variety of options in Alessia Russo, Lauren James, Lauren Hemp and Ella Toone to name a few.

Toone and Russo were close calls for me on this occasion but I think it is Georgia Stanway who offers the most value. The midfielder has already made a splash in Switzerland this summer, with two goals to her name already.

The Bayern Munich star poses a huge attacking threat and the fact that she is also the dependable penalty taker for the Lionesses was the swinger for this selection.
