Swansea vs Nottingham Forest Prediction: Can Ange deliver on his promise?

Ange Postecoglou claimed that his new Nottingham Forest side would have to be ready to play in his image by Wednesday after the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, and so here we are. His Tricky Trees travel to Swansea City in the Carabao Cup (20:00, Sky Sports+) looking to progress to round four.

Team News

Swansea boss Alan Sheehan will be pleased with how his side have started the season, and it will be interesting to see how many changes he makes for this one. Zan Vipotnik has the best goals-per-minute record in the Championship this season, but he is likely to make way for £7m summer signing Adam Idah.

The former Celtic man is set to make his first start for his new club, while Eom Ji-sung and Melker Widell will hope for rare starts. Zeidane Inoussa will likely be given another chance to show what he can do having joined for £5.5m as Swansea invest heavily this summer. 

Football Odds

Postecoglou will likely stick with the majority of his first team, given he has spoken about his side having to get up and running as soon as possible. Arnaud Kalimuendo should replace Chris Wood at the top end of the pitch, while John Victor will start in goal - but aside from that, it should be more of the same from Forest.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Dilane Bakwa should start as the attacking trio behind the striker, with Dan Ndoye possibly losing his spot in the XI.

Swansea are priced at 4/1 to win this game on home soil, with Nottingham Forest the 4/6 favourites. That gives the away side an implied win probability of 60%, while a draw is 3/1.

Nottingham Forest to win @ 4/6

I was encouraged by Postecoglou’s response when he was asked how long it will take until we see a Forest side playing in his image: "Wednesday mate. I can't afford to waste time, this is not a project. I'm not going to let it take long, we've got an unbelievable opportunity to make an impact."

I think he will ultimately get off to a good start to life at Forest, and despite the defeat to Arsenal, I think we will see immediate progress. Swansea are a decent Championship outfit but I am expecting changes, while Forest are a clear level above them - especially if Postecoglou takes this seriously with his team selection. 

This should be a comfortable away win, so my first selection is to back the popular Aussie to find his first win in charge of the Tricky Trees.

Arnaud Kalimuendo to score anytime @ 7/5

Kalimuendo joined Nottingham Forest for £26m this summer, and he should start this game with Wood likely to be handed a rest. He scored a remarkable 17 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games last season for Rennes, and I’d expect him to keep on improving at the age of 23.

He should be able to give this Swansea defence a troublesome evening, especially when you consider that only both struggling Sheffield clubs have failed to find the net against them this term. Kalimuendo will fancy his chances of making a name for himself in this competition.
