Team News

Germany forward Jamie Leweling came off injured inside the first eight minutes of Stuttgart's goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen last Friday and will miss Wednesday's visit of Atalanta.

The 23-year-old joins Jeff Chabot, Yannik Kietel, Luca Raimund and Dan-Axel Zagadou in the treatment room, but Ameen Al-Dakhil made his return as a substitute at the BayArena and could play his first-ever Champions League minutes in midweek.

Leonidas Stergiou has been injured all season but is back in training and should be available for selection soon.

Jeff Chabot has missed Stuttgart's last two games, the first a 2-1 DFB Pokal success over Kaiserslautern, but the 26-year-old could be restored to the starting XI on Wednesday after being banned for Friday's trip to Leverkusen.

Ermedin Demirovic started Stuttgart's last European game, a 1-0 win over Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in October, but El Bilal Toure replaced him for the last half an hour and struck a late winner. The 23-year-old has since scored against Holstein Kiel in a 2-1 Bundesliga victory and started Friday's stalemate so looks likely to keep his place in attack alongside former Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Deniz Undav, keeping Demirovic on the bench.

Football Odds

Atalanta remain without long-term absentee Gianluca Scamacca, but Marco Brescianini made his return from a six-game absence as a late substitute in Sunday's 3-0 win at Napoli.

Giorgio Scalvini is back in training after recovering from a ruptured ACL in June but this game is likely to come too soon for the 20-year-old defender.

Leading Serie A goalscorer Mateo Retegui, who found the net as a substitute in Naples, looks set to return to the starting XI in Stuttgart, partnering Ademola Lookman, who bagged a brace on the weekend, up top.

Raoul Bellanova, Odilon Kossounou and Lazar Samardzic could also come into contention should Gian Piero Gasperini decide to make further changes to his lineup.

Stuttgart are slight favourites on Wednesday with odds of 6/4 giving the German side an implied win probability of 40%, while Atalanta are 7/4, or a 36.4% chance, to take all three points back to Bergamo.

A draw is priced at 5/2, both teams to score at 1/2, and over 2.5 total goals at 8/13.

Unsurprisingly, Retegui (8/5) heads the anytime goalscorer market, followed by fellow La Dea forward Lookman and Stuttgart striker Undav (both 7/4).

Anytime Goalscorer - Deniz Undav (STU) @ 7/4

Undav enjoyed a sensational debut season at Stuttgart, on loan from Brighton, netting 18 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances. The 28-year-old made the move permanently in August and has started where he left off in Germany, scoring five times in nine league outings so far.

The Germany international also found the net in the DFL-Supercup defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on August 17, as well as Stuttgart's opening Champions League game exactly a month later when they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid.

Undav has been unable to add to his tally in the competition, blanking against both Sparta Prague and Juventus, but I'm backing him to come good again on Wednesday and break Atalanta's brave resistance in Europe.

La Dea are yet to concede in the league phase, drawing 0-0 at home with Arsenal and Celtic either side of a 3-0 victory over Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

As such, they are yet to play a 'proper' away game, so while they deserve credit for keeping out a side like Arsenal, their biggest test so far could arrive in Stuttgart.

Die Roten have scored in all six home matches this term, netting 14 times across those contests, while Atalanta have shipped four away to Inter Milan as well as two to each of Torino and Real Madrid.

I think Stuttgart can get on the scoresheet on Wednesday and as their most prolific forward, it makes sense to tip Undav for a goal, and 7/4 is a decent enough price for me to do so.

Match Result & Both Teams to Score - Draw & Yes @ 3/1

Both teams to score hasn't landed in any of Atalanta's three Champions League games so far, partly due to their defensive diligence, and partly because of a failure to breach the defences of Arsenal and Celtic.

However, it's been a different story in Serie A where 55 per cent (six) of their 11 matches have ended with at least a goal on either side.

Meanwhile, 78 per cent (seven) of Stuttgart's nine Bundesliga outings have seen both teams score, including all four of their home contests - none of which they have lost. They've drawn two of them, the first a 3-3 thriller with Mainz on August 31 and the second a 1-1 with Hoffenheim on October 6.

Sebastian Hoeness' side have also experienced a score draw in the Champions League, being held 1-1 at home by Sparta Prague on October 1.

Friday's stalemate was the club's fifth of the season - home or away - in all competitions, but the first that had finished goalless.

Atalanta have only drawn three times this term but two did come in the Champions League, albeit 0-0's with Arsenal and Celtic. The other was in Serie A on September 28, when Samardzic's 90th-minute strike rescued a point in a 1-1 with Bologna.

Stuttgart are unbeaten at home in 2024/25 but have drawn half (three) of their six games at MHPArena, while Atalanta are in superb form, unbeaten since September 24 and eyeing up a fourth-straight win on Wednesday.

If this match was in Bergamo I would probably head in the direction of a win for La Dea but in Stuttgart, I believe Die Roten can achieve a positive result, so a draw and both teams to score at 3/1 is worthy of consideration, in my opinion.
