Borussia Monchengladbach will continue their push for a top-four place in the Bundesliga on Sunday (14:30, Sky Sports Football) when they travel to Hamburg to face St. Pauli. Gerardo Seoane's side have won six of their last 10 fixtures in the top flight and they are building lots of momentum as they bid to return to Europe's grandest stage.

Their hosts find themselves just three points above the bottom three but they have just one win in their past eight league games. Below you will find my St. Pauli vs Borussia Monchengladbach predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

St Pauli's injury list is extensive, which is far from ideal when you're scrapping towards the bottom of the table. Defenders Siebe van der Heyden, David Nemeth, Adam Dzwigala and Karol Mets are sidelined alongside goalkeeper Sascha Burchert.

Boss Alexander Blessin may consider moving midfielder Jackson Irvine into a back three next to Hauke Wahl and Eric Smith.

Carlo Boukhalfa and Connor Metcalfe could be stationed in a double pivot considering James Sands and Robert Wagner are also missing for the hosts.

With forward Simon Zoller another player in the infirmary, Blessin is likely to turn to attackers Noah Weisshaupt, Danel Sinani and Elias Saad to help get the Kiezkicke back to winning ways.

St. Pauli vs Borussia Monchengladbach Stats

  • Nine of Gladbach's last 11 away trips in the league have featured BTTS
  • Alassane Plea (BMG) has four goals in his last two Bundesliga matches

Borussia Monchengladbach are currently missing their main two goalkeepers in Jonas Omlin and Moritz Nicolas, so 18-year-old shot-stopper Tiago Pereira Cardoso will once again feature between the sticks for Die Fohlen.

He'll likely be shielded by a back four of Joe Scally, Ko Itakura, Nico Elvedi and Lukas Ullrich.

Defender Luca Netz is in the treatment room and is not expected to return to action until later this month. Midfielder Philipp Sander is due to make his comeback from an illness in the coming days, but he will be unavailable on Sunday. Rocco Reitz and Julian Weigl should start in the engine room as a result.

Gladbach striker Tim Kleindienst has scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga and he's set to feature up top again as he returns from a one-game suspension. Alassane Plea, Franck Honorat and Robin Hack look set to provide support to the front man in the attacking midfield roles.

St. Pauli vs Borussia Monchengladbach Odds

St. Pauli have won just one of their last eight Bundesliga matches but they are 6/4 to beat the in-form Gladbach on Sunday.

Borussia Monchengladbach are 7/4 (which has an implied probability of 36.4%) to come away with three points, which is very appealing as they have won on their previous four away trips in the league.

The draw is marketed at 12/5, which was the outcome in the hosts' trip to Wolfsburg on March 8.

Both teams to score has been a successful bet in nine of Gladbach's past 11 away games in the top flight and it is 4/6 to strike at Millerntor-Stadion.

With 15 league goals to his name, with his latest coming on his last outing at Werder Bremen, Monchengladbach forward Kleindienst is the 7/4 favourite to score in this contest.

Borussia Monchengladbach to win @ 7/4

After a few years of mediocrity, it feels like Gladbach are building themselves back up. Seoane has done a great job since joining in 2023 and the fact that he has been here for almost two years is a sign of progress for the Foals, with recent head coaches such as Adi Hutter and Daniel Farke only lasting a year in the job.

Die Fohlen are fifth in the league standings currently, just two points behind this year's surprise package Mainz 05. Die Borussen have been exceptional on their travels in recent weeks, winning four on the bounce ahead of their trip to St. Pauli, who will be wary of the threat Gladbach pose.

The hosts are treading carefully as only three points separate them from Heidenheim, who are currently sat in the relegation play-off spot. Their form is of great concern, with just one victory in the last eight Bundesliga fixtures.

This feels like it can play right into Borussia Monchengladbach's hands, who are playing much better on the road currently than they are at Borussia Park. I think 7/4 offers good value for them to win again, which would keep them applying pressure on Mainz in fourth.

Alassane Plea anytime goalscorer @ 9/4

Gladbach attacker Plea has been in fine form in the past couple of games. He bagged a hat-trick at Werder Bremen before scoring the only goal of the game at Borussia Park against RB Leipzig last Saturday.

The 32-year-old has now scored 10 goals in the Bundesliga this term, and only Kleindienst has more for Die Fohlen. He is going to be full of confidence coming into this match, not just because of the four goals in the last two games, but because he was on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture against St.Paui back in November.

I think he offers great value to score against the strugglers again and extend his scoring streak into a third-straight fixture in the top flight.
