Sporting CP vs Moreirense Prediction: Sporting face a fight for the win

Sporting CP have made a strong start to the new Primeira Liga season but already know that they cannot afford to make any mistakes when they play host to Moreirense on Monday evening, with kick-off at the Estádio José Alvalade scheduled for 20:15.

The Lisbon giants have won four from five in the league so far this season, but the lone reverse was a 1-0 home defeat to FC Porto, who are setting the pace with a 100 percent record of six wins from six games played. Sporting still have a number of injury problems to deal with, with Daniel Braganca and Nuno Santos ruled out, while Geny Catamo, Ousmane Diomande and Rui Silva are all rated as doubtful.

Belgian defender Zeno Debast is expected to start after being on the bench for the 4-1 midweek Champions League win over Kairat Almaty.

For the visitors Rodri Alonso, Guilherme Liberato and Lawrence Ofori are all sidelined, while defender Diogo Travassos is ineligible as he is on loan from Sporting.

While the Lions are not expected to drop any points on Monday evening, they may need to score more than once to make sure that victory is theirs.

Rui Borges’ side have scored in every game since their season-opening 1-0 loss to Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup and have found the net at least twice in each of their last six games, excluding the 2-1 home loss to Porto.

They scored six against Arouca and four against CD Nacional, as well as four in their midweek Champions League win over Kairat.

Moreirense have netted eight goals in their five league games so far this season and are unlikely to go down without a fight at the Estádio José Alvalade, so could get on the scoresheet despite leaving empty-handed.

Colombia striker Luis Suarez has made a fine start to his time in Lisbon with three goals in five league appearances to date, a tally that has been matched by former Barcelona forward Francisco Trincao.

Portugal international Trincao scored nine league goals last season and has started the new season seemingly determined to better that tally.

He began with three goals in two games, against Casa Pia and Arouca, before going three league games without a goal. However, a midweek double against Kairat showed that he has definitely not gone off the boil in front of goal.
