Team News
The Saints are likely to pair the in-form Dan Nlundula up with either Mikael Mandron or Jonah Ayunga in attack in a 3-5-2.
Having lost 3-0 to Hibernian last time out, there could be changes in the heart of the side for Stephen Robinson’s outfit, but there will be no Mark O’Hara since the club captain is still missing through injury.
For the visitors, the main news is that the club’s AGM on Friday was abandoned amidst supporter unrest as the search for a new head coach drags on in a ridiculous fashion not unlike that seen over the city at Rangers recently.
On the pitch, interim boss Martin O’Neill is missing the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kelechi Iheanacho, Callum Osmand, Alistair Johnston and Jota.
Johnny Kenny should start in the centre of attack, with Scotland’s World Cup qualification hero Kieran Tierney returning to club duty at left back.
St Mirren vs Celtic Predicted Lineups
- St Mirren: George; Fraser, King, Freckleton; Richardson, Phillips, Donnelly, Baccus, John; Nlundulu, Ayunga
- Celtic: Schmeichel; Simpson-Pusey, Trusty, Scales, Tierney; McCowan, McGregor, Hatate; Maeda, Kenny, Tounekti
You can guess which team is most-heavily backed for the win. Celtic are a 4/9 shot (implying a 69.2% probability), while St Mirren are out at 6/1.
The draw can be followed at 18/5, while Kenny is the favourite to grab the opening goal at 10/3.
Among the available price boosts with Betfred comes the opportunity to back both teams to score, to win four or more corners and to rack up 20-plus booking points at 8/1 from 7/1.
St Mirren vs Celtic Stats
- Celtic are unbeaten against St Mirren in their last 14 meetings, winning 12 of those (42 goals to 10)
- The Hoops have won their last two league games 4-0. Their last string of three wins by that score of better came in 2003 during Martin O’Neill’s first spell
- St Mirren are on a five-game run without a league win which has seen them drop from third to ninth
Handicap -2: Celtic -2 @ 11/4
Given Celtic’s upturn in form since O’Neill stepped in for the departed Brendan Rodgers, and taking into account the Buddies’ rapid slide down the Premiership, I can only see one winner here.
The reigning champions got their title defence off to a winning start against St Mirren back in August, but that very late 1-0 victory at Parkhead spoke to the issues Rodgers and the club were having even at that point.
Freed from that ire, they have been a completely different prospect over the last few weeks, and I can’t see them not dealing the hosts a bit of a beating on Saturday night.
I expect they’ll be a few goals better than the Saints, and it could be a shot across the bows ahead of the League Cup final in three weeks’ time.

Celtic/Celtic @ 11/10
If Celtic score early, the game could be all-but done very quickly. And against that context, I find the 11/10 on offer here to be on the generous side.
While only one of their five Premiership wins under Rodgers this term came on the back of a half-time lead, they have been on top at the break in both victories since O’Neill and his tracksuit returned.
More of the same on Saturday is priced up at an implied probability of 47.6% but I’m backing MON to continue his 100% record in that regard.
